Good morning on this very wet Saturday, it is supposed to be the wettest of the current week.
Yesterday I patched up the leaf filter on one of my rainwater tanks with a hot melt glue gun and later filmed pumping the water from one tank to the other - both are now full.
Too wet to do anything in the garden so I might try to make something of the family videos I took at Christmas otherwise it will be a matter of eating and/or sitting in front of the tele and/or listening to music and/or a podcast. Spoilt for choice.
The trains are having industrial action next week - normally I take the train into Wollongong to see my specialist then take the bus home but I might have to do things differently on Tuesday. Could always drive as a last resort.
Apart from that, like the weather my day is looking pretty bleak, probably wonāt go out at all.
I was very surprised by how cold the water is in Port Phillip Bay,something to do with the South Pole I think.Itās nice and refreshing to take a dip on a hot day.
Very little concern about shark attacks on the Sussex coast Bruce although unfortunately the sewage is a different matter!
Moving swiftly on itās a balmy minus three outside at the moment and not forecast to rise above freezing until midday.
Itās a day for staying in, household chores interspersed with cooking, snacking and indulging in the occasional glass of red
The new beard clippers arrived yesterday. They say that as a gentleman matures a little salt and pepper facial hair looks rather dignified, I shall probably look like an old dosser! Itās going to be close anyway, thereās no way Iām going longer than 2mm, donāt like proper beards at all. I have to run the other Wahl clippers over my bonce too so itās going to be a bit of a āsalonā day.
Morning all ā below freezing again overnight but things are getting better ā top temperature today a massive 3c!
Didnāt get to the new club yesterday. Received a text from my brother that he would be ringing me later ā my mind immediately began to think that something was wrong, either Mum had been taken ill and he was waiting for doctorās report or something terrible had happened to another family member. Was on tenterhooks until he rang ā nothing wrong, apparently he had tried to ring me a couple of days ago and didnāt get an answer so just wanted to be sure I would be home!!! (he always rings on my landline). He is lucky he is 12,000 miles away and I couldnāt get my hands on him but as it is he wonāt be making that mistake again!
My boring plans for today are some shopping and laundry. I also need to renew my driverās licence and pay the yearly vehicle tax so that will also be dealt with today. As my appetite seems to be returning I am treating myself to a pizza for dinner tonight ā I may even have a glass of wine (not felt like having a drink since Boxing Day!)
I ventured out yesterday , I stepped cautiously , rather flat footed ,and made it there and back without falling.
Today will be a walk with dog , @OldGreyFox your canal looks like a river compared to the Grantham Canal I walk , which is mostly dry in the area I walk .it keeps getting a leak , so its on going ,
@SheilaP Im just getting my sense of smell back , which means I must be on the mend ,Enjoy your Pizza.
Good morning - I got out of bed with great reluctance this morning. I knew the house would be cold ā¦and so it was. Forced myself in the end an up and about now. The outside temperature is -4ĀŗC at 9.25 A.M in not so sunny Surrey (it is actually sunny at the moment).
Some house cleaning will be done this morning, then some TV watching this afternoon. Friends are coming here for a curry this evening. Have to prepare the table early evening to look like that of a restaurant.
Thatās about if for me. Hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning!
Dry, bright, clear & sunny but very cold
I havenāt Posted for a few days as Iāve got a bit of a cold - not serious, just sniffly & annoying, but I feel slightly better this morning
A few days ago - was it Monday? - when we had snow I drove to a supermarket and stocked up on food & whisky
Then two things happened - I started with this cold, and the weather became very cold
In fact it is very cold & icy with snow & heavy frost on the ground & the cars, so Iāve been indoors since then
Fortunately I have loads of food in so Iāve been spending my time in bed trying to read, or well wrapped sitting in my comfy chair watching TV
I expect that like most people now Iām waiting for the warmer weather.
EDIT, about an hour later ā
Iāve just looked up the weather forecast on tāNet for my area
Itās supposed to be warmer by Tuesday or Wednesday, and for the next week or so
Iām sure I can survive until then
Morning Allā¦
It looks like a scene from āDoctor Zhivagoā this morning with the temperature at minus 4 Cā¦
The womanās car across the road hasnāt been moved since it snowed and now itās engulphed in a thick frost. Her drive never gets the sun in winterā¦
Beautiful sunrise though as we made our way back from the Tesco early on, and by the amount of steam billowing from Drax power station, itās working on full power this morning.
Mrs Fox is just drying her hair and making herself look pretty (Iām not saying a word ) after showering, Iām going to take her for some steak pie at a garden centre in half an hourā¦
Great minds think alike Chilli, Iāve never grown a beard in my life, and arenāt keen on them at all. But I havenāt shaved for a few days and Iāll see what developsā¦Hereās work in progressā¦
Drax is currently supplying 6% of our electricity. Itās been converted from coal to biomass that helps to make your bills a lot more expensive. It sits on over 300 years of coal, but the biomass is shipped from Canada.
Gas powered stations are doing the heavy lifting in this cold weather (57%) with 14% being bought in from abroad.
forget the 2% of solar power as night draws in, but itās okay to plug in all your electric cars after workā¦
Who actually is in charge of our energy? Because they sure as hell donāt care about the citizens of the UK.
I used the big clippers up on top and then set the new beardy ones to zero for my first attempt which actually leaves some stubble although itās not very clear in the picture. In a day or so I should have the desired effect.
Must make a note to myself to remind me to get out more, or perhaps we should start a beardy topic
My first wife never saw me without a beard, my second wife never saw me with one. As a shift worker I often went a few days with out shaving and the latter would remark," You look like a beggar".
Since divorcing her I have regrown a beard, shaving is such a waste of time. Every few weeks I get my clippers with a #2 spacer (is that what they are called?) and run it over my entire head.
Thatās steam (strictly speaking water vapour) in your photo, these days, if there was visible smoke there would be hell to pay. I have only worked at one powerhouse that made smoke and that was over 40 years ago. Pyrmont Power Station in the heart of Sydney, it still had electrolytic precipitators rather than a bag house to collect the fine ash so it did make smoke even though the precipitators collected the majority of the ash.
The suburb was actually very fertile because acid was sprayed into the gas before the precipitator to aid clumping and an alkaline sprayed in afterwards to neutralise it - the result was a fertiliser. Occasionally things would go wrong and the washing on the local lines would end up as rags when the alkaline spray failed.
Ah, men, hereās a womanās take on the beard trends today: @Chilliboot@OldGreyFox@Bruceā¦
Nothing more masculine than a gentās smooth face. One can admire the jaw line, shape of the face, touch lightly to stroke, and look around youā¦
Every man 50 or over looks just alike when cheeks, chin, lips are covered by hair.
Nothing sexy about it at all. Even George Clooney should shave every day.
I tend to agree with your second wife Bruce. I think I look too much like a vagrant at the moment, unless it develops into something handsome I think itās days are numbered.
Thatās true Bruce, and I think most people mistake it for pollutionā¦
Thanks RN, you have confirmed what I have always thought. Alas, Iām no George Clooney and may be a disappointment with or without the facial hair RMā¦
Mrs Fox was once asked by her friend āHow come you married an ugly bloke?ā She repliedā¦āWell heāll be out at work all day, and heās a hard worker so Iāll only see him in the darkāā¦
You men are very handsome with smooth shaven faces! Even now, older and yet still pleasing to look at.
Iām not buttering anyone up, itās simply a fact. I bet Iām not the only lady here who appreciates this.
