Good morning everyone, it is sunny and warm but windy once again here, up to 90kph gusts forecast. These westerly winds are a bit late they are usually over by the end of August.
Monday eh? Spring eh? it was over 23° when I got up this morning I think it is actually cooler now as it nears midday - I think the cold front has arrived. and dropped the temperature a couple of degrees.
Walking to my coffee and cake meeting was arduous being buffeted by the wind but it is supposed to die down by this arvo. Most of our chat was about the six monthly pension rise (nothing like money to dominate the conversation) apparently we are to get a $28 increase per fortnight this month, to be honest I haven’t checked if this is right.
On my way out earlier I noticed a large tarpaulin or plastic sheet wrapped round the school sign at the side of my block, went to recover it when I got home but it has blown away - probably half way to New Zealand by now.
Have a wonderful day, eat lots of cake, take care…
Good morning - Hope you enjoyed your cake Bruce. We had a kind of cake meeting yesterday. Down to the family coming around for a belated Birthday party.
It should be supermarket day today but there’s an appointment at the hospital for a blood test. I’ll have to stay for the results and that could be a few hours. Can’t make plans further than that.
On the bright side, the tomatoes that I grew from a single supermarket tomato have started to go red at last. There will be loads more than we can eat but I’ll be popular with the neighbours because there will be some for them. Mrs mart will make soup with some and freeze it.
Morning all – rain overnight, grey and cloudy this morning with thunder storm forecast for later (oh joy!)
Yesterday afternoon my neighbours invited me in for coffee – of course I went, it would have been rude to refuse. We had a very pleasant afternoon putting the world to rights – we should really set up our own political party and stand for parliament, we have such sensible policies we would win by a landslide!!
Early evening the thunder started – something which always makes me nervous (a result of my childhood when my mother would take us and hide in the cupboard under the stairs during thunder storms!)
Plan for today is grocery shopping and post a letter to Mum, the nearest sub-post office is a 20 minute drive away!
All of this talk about cake is making my mouth water, I must pop to the shop when I’ve finished here to see what they have on offer!
It’s a strange day today, overcast with a dampness in the air, I wonder if it’s building up for a thunderstorm. I had a similar experience as a child when it thundered @SheilaP although mine was with my Grandmother who looked after us when my parents were at work. She used to usher us into the pantry, which was under the stairs, whenever it thundered. I think it was memories of bombing during the war that lingered for her because that is where she went then. However, it didn’t frighten me because I do like to see a thunderstorm just so long as it isn’t during the night. My late mother in law would open the back door and the front door and cover the mirrors when it thundered, to let the storm through she said. When I told my son about that he thought I was making it up - but people were more superstitious in those days I suppose.
Nothing much planned for today except some housework and maybe ironing, or maybe the ironing can wait another day …
Good Morning from Foxy’s World…
After yesterdays failed attempt at walking I decided to go out on the bike again this morning.
The knee and back did feel a lot better after a good nights sleep, I even slept longer than usual.
The weather looked perfect apart from the mist laying across the fields, but not a breath of wind.
Before I had pedalled three miles I felt good and managed to go the whole way round my 15 mile route. Might try a short walk tomorrow…
Amazing that you managed to grow some tomatoes from seed Mart, I bet they taste a lot better than the ones you bought from the supermarket…
Mum used to open the back door during a thunderstorm Margaret, but I don’t remember anything about covering the mirrors…
