Good Morning Monday, 26th January - Australia Day

Good morning everyone, much cooler today, a balmy 25°.

Walk as usual on a lovely sunny morning, then for reasons beyond me I decided to wash my clothes and bedding. While this was happening in my washing machine it was busily clouding over. It may or may not rain, if it does it will just be nuisance rain - like 1mm.

At 9am I watched the Australia Day ceremony in Canberra, normally would not bother but my son is now in the Fed Guard so I had to watch. I saw him doing his stuff, marching on, waving his gun about, standing to attention, being inspected by the Governor General, then marching off. (That’s when I stopped watching)

Terrible pic I know, sorry.

My 3D printer is whirling away in the background making a mount/holder for a 600w USB C charger that I bought recently. It is for my camper.

Only another four hours to go.

Have a magnificent Monday.

Take care…

Hi

Good Morning Bruce and all who follow.

Happy Australia Day to all Australians.

Yet another just plain wet and miserable day here, absolutely nothing exciting happening.

It would be a lovely change to be able to sit outside and be dry, even if only for an hour or so.

The little bit of the house I spend most of my days in is looking like a Tip, very messy, so going to try to clean it up before my helper arrives for her two hour visit at 9 am.

I like to be organised, not in a mess.

Unfortunately my heart has been playing up over the weekend, causing positional hypotension, which in reality is just a big name for falling over when you try to stand up or bend down.

Loads to do, very slowly, so be back on here later.

Enjoy your day.

Morning all…

Another grey start to the week, looks like it might rain later.

Not a great day yesterday. Went for a roast dinner in a pub, but didn’t realise that the local city was playing football with a rival city, so there was nothing but screaming and shouting every time someone put a ball in a net (being very anti-football), so instead of a nice meal, it was how quick we could eat it and get out. Fortunately, it was a freebie on some offer my wife found, so we didn’t pay for it - apart from the drinks. That said, we went to the hotel next door and had a really nice cream tea, which made up for it.

As for today, just come back from my walk, seeing no signs of the swans which were probably scared off wit the roadworks nearby. Have to take the wife to the gym later and do some online shopping afterwards. Apart from that, no idea what’s happening.

Have a great day all

0ur microvave oven light stopped working so decided to replace it . I didn’t know there are so many different types and tried to find the right one for ours. No reference anywhere on our mivrowave about internal lamps. The machine works ok so didn’t want to buy another.
Only answer was first to unplug from the mains -remove the vent spacer plate at the back- take off the all in one side /top cover. Now locate and remove the actual lamp with the attached holder. There on the plate underneath the bulb is attached to is the model lamp number - voltage/amps etc, so ordered a replacement and a lot cheaper as a DIY project then sending the microwave away to have this done, Replacement on order now

Not a hard job to do and takes about 30 minuites

Good morning all!

Not a lot to say really
I’m much anticipating A Woman in a Dressing Gown turning up at my front door…

Okay, not a real one granted :sob:
One of those Brit kitchen sink type films that’s gone under the radar in my opinion, looking forward to watching the DVD.
Also a delivery from Evri is supposedly imminent, hoping it’s my vintage lens hood…it was supposed to have arrived by Saturday! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Happy Australia Day down under people! :+1:

A quick edit…it was the lens hood, happy bunny!

Good Day all you forum types, and a happy Australia Day to our fellow Aussies… :039:
Although there were big black clouds and standing water everywhere the rain kept off while on my early morning stroll along the towpath, I managed a few half hearted sprints, but lacking enthusiasm. Just like the weather.

Some road closures due to flooding in the vicinity, but the river Don had not burst it’s banks. Due to the high level of the river, the sluice gates won’t open, and the surrounding land can’t drain into the river. It is a flood plain though and is expected to do that when we have lots of rain. Unfortunately, one of the main roads goes across it.

Mrs Fox went to the dentist last week for some new teeth Bruce, and I was surprised to see how they make them now, apparently they don’t take a mould like in the old days, they just scan her mouth and make some on a 3D printer. Quite expensive though, I thought about you, and wondered if you could a print a pair off for her…
:astonished:

Sorry to hear about your hypotension Swimmy, that happens to me sometimes when I stand up or bend down, I go all wobbly and have to look for some support…

I’m not keen on football either Graham and avoid town centres when the ruffians are roaming around.

Was a time when you could visit the local DIY shop and pick up a bulb Realspeed, and the job would have been completed in an hour…Mind you, I don’t have a microwave, just bulbs in the fridge and oven. Those bulbs look a bit more complex.

Enjoy the DVD Chilli, not heard of that one before, although Mrs Fox isn’t feeling very well today and it looks like she will be in her dressing gown all day today.

Soup of the day…Tesco Vegetable and a slice of hot buttered toast…

Thanks Chilli, it went down well, which is more than can be said about the bike ride I just did.
I thought I’d ride up to the river Don Bridge to look at swollen River. Turns out, the river wasn’t high at all and they must have closed the road for some other reason, I just assumed… :009:
It was only two point three miles there and back and it’s almost killed me. I don’t know what’s happened to the legs, but they just turned to rubber on the way back and I couldn’t find a gear low enough…It seems there is much work to do once the weather improves…

I think with cycling fitness comes back relatively quickly.
The weather isn’t very motivational at the moment Foxy, it’ll be Easter before we know it!:+1:

Hi

Intermittent Claudication is common if you have heart issues.

It means there isn’t enough blood getting to your legs.

It goes away if you stop for a few minutes, keeping going makes it worse.

The NHS Site has some good info on it.

I looked it up Swimmy and I don’t think it was that.
I think due to not cycling for so long (last September) my thigh muscles have deteriorated to the point where they are unable to produce the output that they did six months ago.
I don’t usually experience pain or skin discolouration while resting.
I think the problem might be also be due to the lack of Oxygen delivered from my heart (38% efficiency at last count) which is more apparent when trying to run. After 2 minutes of running I go into Oxygen deficit, but once I stop running and just walk, my oxygen supply to the muscles catches up and I’m ready to go again. For this reason, I’ve abandoned long slow distance and just sprint for one minute and then have to catch my breath.
