Good morning all on another dull but warm enough day - mid 20s. Looks like this weather has set in for the rest of the week. Only 0.5mm rain overnight - could do with a lot more than that.
Went for a walk this morning before setting off for my cake and coffee morning. there was a flock of Corellas grazing on the grass flood plain near the community centre.
Coffee and cake was great fun, called into an Op shop on the way home looking for books but apart from that have no idea what the rest of the day holds
A foggy cold start to the day, only 3C and it’s bin day.
I love the birds you have Bruce, I will swap you some for our rain.
Another day of research and reorganisation of what I can and can’t eat, there seems to be salt in everything.
I have water tests to do on the new reef tank and as soon as the help arrives to assemble the trickle filter I will order the first fish, 2 Clown fish.
I’m going to Manchester today to meet a friend I haven’t seen since before Christmas '24
He’s returning a book I lent him months ago, and I’m giving him some spare thread for leatherwork
We are meeting in Wetherspoons, where no doubt we will discuss matters of great social and political importance
Good morning to everyone, a bit overcast here, sun struggling to come out. Still quite chilly but afternoons are quite warm, reaching 20C, but as soon as the sun goes down, we still need our winter jackets! That’s why I hate Spring, four different seasons in one day, you never know what to wear!
Looking forward to clocks going forward next weekend. Better get on with some housework now.
I will never cease to be amazed by the marvelous, beautiful different birds you have in Australia @Bruce, my penpal always sends me great photos too.
Morning everyone from the wilds of South Yorkshire…
I slept in a bit this morning but still got my walk in at eight instead of seven.
Still only 8 degrees C but due to the lack of the cold North Easterly it felt milder than yesterday.
Everything seemed to be working how it should and I managed a good time.
Meeting a friend later in the local cafe’ we have run hundreds of miles together over the years, so lots to catch up on…
This is us finishing the Robin Hood Marathon in 1987…
The trouble with parrots is that, while they look lovely, their call is just a raucous squawk and, being big birds, they damage things. My FM aerial had a couple of arms missing because of galahs swinging on them.
My favourite bird is the Magpie their call is so intricate and melodious, apparently they are not related to the European Magpie at all, they were called a Magpie because of their black and white plumage (probably by the same people who named the Alligator Rivers in the NT - there are no alligators in Australia). I think they are a type of butcher bird. And they are everywhere.
Magpies and cicadas are the sound of Australia for me. Though Kookaburras are up there.
Speaking of birds… Went to the museum a week ago. Paid for special admission rates. I was not told till inside, “You can view these free online”. Ha! Very excellent visit, wanted to share some prints
We’ve got a few Robin’s around here and if I had to choose the best birdsong that would certainly be the one I’d choose. Although as Eliza had mentioned, there is nothing that hails the onset of spring like the sound of a hovering Skylark…
Some lovely sunshine here in West Sussex at the moment. We’ve just been to the bank arranging an ISA for my son. Okay, business concluded it’s time for some pleasure. I’ve sampled some unusual beers recently but this one takes the biscuit, lovely…
Our European magpie or as we call it: “gazza ladra”, which means “thief magbie”, because this bird has a reputation for stealing anything that’s shiny , taking it away, and also stealing other birds’ eggs!
You can see the resemblance but I think the Australian Magpie is much bigger and the European Magpie doesn’t attack people during the nesting season.
