Good Morning Monday, 1st September 2025

Spring has sprung so it’s Good Morning from me on quite a pleasant morning, plenty of sunshine at least.

Coffee and cake this morning, of course, followed by a supermarket trip, Treated myself to a Cheese Kransky for lunch.

Was browsing my bank app when I discovered that I can deposit a cheque using it, Involves using the phone camera to take both sides of the cheque but it seems to have gone well. It says I have to keep the cheque for seven days they destroy it. I thought it was very clever… Lucky I had a cheque to deposit, I might have actually done this before because it seemed vaguely familiar but it was a long time ago if I have and I must have forgotten.

This arvo I have a few jobs I want to get done in the garden so that will keep me busy.

Enjoy your week.

Take care…

Autumn doesn’t happen until the autumnal equinox in the US, so still three-ish weeks of Summer. Dubai’s fours seasons are a little different than most places: They are “December, January, February, and Summer.” Very sunny this morning, so driving out of the apartment’s parking garage was almost painful on my eyes.

I am having a visitor tomorrow. A Russian chess grandmaster whom I know is in town and needs a place to rest his head. I don’t know how long he’ll be in town, but I’ll have a chance to get my butt kicked at the chessboard a couple of times. I’m good at chess, but nowhere near good enough to beat a grandmaster. I’m fairly happy when I make it 20 moves without being totally lost already. I’ll scoot out of work a little early to make sure the place is clean and presentable for his arrival.

Good morning!
Sunny & dry

I’ve been to the local Men’s Shed a couple of times for a general chat & introduction but I’m going there soon for my first full time/proper session, though I’m not sure what I’ll be doing

Men’s Sheds often do carpentry, but I’m not that good at it
However I noticed they had a couple of boxes of old tools that had been donated and I mentioned that I would be quite happy to work through them, cleaning, sharpening, and so on
So unless they have other suggestions I’ll get started on that

On the way home I’ll call at a supermarket for some shopping

Hi

Good Morning All.

A paperwork day with Shona here, she will also be dealing with the medics for me.

I have my call from Age UK late morning.

A very funny Scottish Lady who lives locally, no flies on her, she was a Police Sergeant working nights in Glasgow.

Otherwise, a boring job day.

Hope yours is better.

Morning all…

A bit showery here in the south coast, just come back from my daily walk.

Not much to say about today, Mrs G is off to the gym and I have a dental appointment shortly after. Beyond that, I’ll let a mug of strong coffee decide what else is happening today.

Have a great day all…

:grinning:

Australian seasons all conveniently commence on the 1st of a month, none of this horsing about with equinoxes. As I understand it, it is all to do with postman’s uniforms.

‘Morning has broken’ and left me for dead…
Started the day with a 16 mile bike ride with some very testing windy sections, but I made it round in one piece. Hardly any traffic and didn’t see one person…I could have been the only person left on the planet… :biking_man:
I might need the rest of the day to recover…
I called in at the surgery to hand in my next months prescription requirements, so there might be something in there to turn me into Lance Armstrong for my ride next week…
:face_with_hand_over_mouth:
Ah chess Don… :017:
I learn’t to play chess back in the 1970’s after hearing about the famous game between Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov. My mate taught me the moves while playing fifty games like the famous pair…We had a small travel chess board and played while in the pub or going to the coast in the car…It must be illegal?
I think the best I did was one draw…
Haven’t played much since, and the games I have played I’ve lost miserably…
My system is, to take as many of my opponents pieces as I can until he has nothing left and I can maneuver the bits I have left, into a checkmate… :041: Well, it’s not rocket science is it…

Good afternoon everyone, Summer’s back again, after a terrible week of rainstorms and much cooler temperatures , although tomorrow’s forecast doesn’t look too good!

A very hot and sunny day yesterday too, when my son and I went on our day trip to Sorrento and Capri, we did a lot of walking, enjoyed the trip immensely. Spectacular, breathtaking views, they really are fabulous places. Packed with tourists, mostly American, many British, everybody just automatically spoke English when asking for information, I loved “showing off” my intact British accent, chatting to tourists!

Here’s one of the photos I took, just to start off with. I’ll post some more in the photo thread later.

Enjoy the rest of the day, hoping more sunshine heads your way too. :sunny:

i used to live in Naples in the 1980s. I wouldn’t be surprised of many of the “tourists” were sailors and their families from the US Naval and NATO bases in Capodichino (was in Agnano when I was there) and Bagnoli, respectively. There’s also a small port base about 40 miles from Naples in Gaeta. I’ve driven the Amalfi coast a couple of times. It is beautiful. It’s also the end of “Ferraugusto,” the Italian Summer holiday, so all the Italians are back at work. I bet there would have been more Italian tourists last week.

Beautiful photo Rose, I always wanted to go to Naples and Capri ever since my mum and Dad visited there some years ago. I think it became popular for them when Gracie Fields went to live on Capri. The nearest I got was Florence, Pisa and Rome while on a med cruise…It just wasn’t long enough to fully appreciate the beauty of Italy and the magnificent art, and history of the area.

Thanks Foxy.
I’ve been living here thirty years and I definitely still have lots to see, it’s a never-ending open-air museum, may I modestly say!
As we’re on the subject, I regret not having travelled more in the UK when I lived in London! I’ve only visited south and south-east areas of England!
