Good morning all. A much warmer day today should be about mid 20s outside.
Coffee and cake meeting this morning so I set off with a cardigan on, had a very pleasant morning but roasted coming home, the cardigan was far too much.
Enjoy your Monday, my back is still playing up so I won’t be doing much.
Hope your back gets better soon @Bruce was that from when you fell ?. It can take a week to recover I think .
I had a good time and plenty of food at the surprise party , Ive never done surprise partys before, so it was funny how we hid waiting to jump out …
yesterday we had a Hail storm, it came suddenly out of the blue , and left huge puddles.
Weather is getting warmer as the week goes on ,and Ive 3 shows to go to up to Sunday , more about them on the day …
Yes, I think it is, at the time I didn’t think I hurt anything except a grazed knee to be honest. I thought I fell quite gracefully to the pavement (getting up again was more of a problem ), it wasn’t until the next morning I had sore knees, wrist and ankle, my back has got worse since then.
A few mundane things going on today. Just come back from my walk and check up on the nesting swan who was asleep. I hung around a little to see if she would wake up and maybe get a peek of any eggs she may have laid. Managed to spot the Canada geese nest which was hidden away, but is too far away to see how she is doing.
So today, a number of things going down, firstly it’s drop the wife off at the gym, after that is go through the all the check-in nonsense for our cruise (meant to have done it yesterday) and then charge up my cameras for our trip to a wild cat sanctuary and generally get ready as we’ve turned this into a three-day trip, with the wife having her eyes firmly set on the large shopping outlet park in the area.
Good Day Everyone
A bit late this morning, it wasn’t until I was almost home and passing the surgery, that I realised I had forgotten to pick up my prescription off the table. So I had to come back. Couldn’t be bothered to walk back, so got out the bike.
I’m going to have to get my finger out and do some riding, it was only a mile and a half, and I was knackered…
The walk was nice though, a clear blue sky, although a bit nippy. And I had the towpath all to myself this morning…
The plume of steam is from Drax Power Station in the distance. Interesting to note, that it now burns wood chips from Canada and Scotland. Aren’t wood chips just coal that hasn’t been formed yet?
Across the river they are building the largest Lithium battery storage facility in the UK. We all complained but they’re building it anyway.
They are used to smooth out voltage fluctuations caused by roof top solar. The big battery in SA has proved to be a great investment. It is being enlarged
Not sure about that Bruce. That fool Miliband has given the okay to build three massive solar farms within a ten mile radius to supply the battery storage facility. When the panels are working 100% (when the sun is out) they will charge the batteries should the need arise for the power. Trouble is, for six months of the year we hardly ever see the sun and the days are short, when the power will be needed…
Fine in Australia, but not here. Even wind turbines are more efficient than solar panels here.
Electricity has always been hard to store, until recently stored hydro was the only way. These batteries make all the difference, in the UK you will be able to run power stations at night to charge them up then use the power during the day,
They also mean that you don’t have to have sufficient generation to cope with the morning and evening peaks because the battery can flatten that load out. Save a fortune because most of the day that excess generation just sits idle.
All of our lithium battery storage facilities will be charged from solar and wind Bruce.
As I mentioned, they are building the largest lithium storage facility in the UK close to our village. When fully charged it will power 300,000 homes for one hour…We are going to need an awful lot of lithium.
Haven’t we just changed the mining of coal, oil and gas for lithium?
This is an excerpt from the info regarding ‘Tween Bridge’ solar farm and it’s associated battery storage facility.
So is the production and mining of all the materials and manufacturing processes net zero and carbon free? And will it still be net zero and carbon free in 25 years time when they will need to replace thousands of wind turbines and hectares of solar panels? Some of which are already been replaced…How can this so called ‘green energy’ possibly be sustainable?
You might not have to shove coal or gas in, but you are having to make millions more bits of equipment to do the same job as a coal burning power station…Madness!
Britain must be very technologically advanced to be able to ensure that only electrons from solar and wind generation are stored in the battery.
That is something Australia has been completely unable to achieve, our batteries are quite indiscriminate, they store electricity generated from coal, wind, solar, hydro and probably even pumped hydro, it’s a free for all out there.
Quite, but they are only connected up to wind and solar, perhaps that’s the reason.
Power stations here can supply on demand, so why would they be connected?
It doesn’t matter how much power is available, once a battery is charged it won’t keep charging. The idea of the lithium battery storage facilities is so that fossil fuel burning power stations can be temporarily shut down when demand is low.
To be honest OGF I don’t think you quite understand how a national grid works. The battery will be connected to the grid exactly the same as all the other power source such as nuclear, wind and solar and the line from France as is every house, fridge,TV etc.
To put it simply the only thing that decides whether the battery is taking power or giving it out is its voltage, it is of no use to anyone if it is not connected to the grid. It is the same as any alternator, it can generate electricity or it can absorb it as a motor (not a desirable state in a power station but can be used to correct power factor).
Actually, no it won’t Bruce… …It will only charge using wind and solar (renewables?)
And not permanently connected to the grid. Only when demand is high.
Considering it will be the largest UK’s BESS and supply 785,000 homes in a country of 70 million residents, you’ve gotta ask for how long?
We are going to need an awful lot of lithium.
