Good morning to all on this warm but overcast Friday.
Toddled off early to the Vietnamese bakery for a dozen wholemeal rolls (and a rock cake) which I freeze - they last me a couple of weeks.
Was reading about all the trouble in the Middle East and Europe so decided on a trip to the servo to fill the car up with fuel and, while I was at it, get 40 litres to store in the garage while it is relatively cheap - at the moment diesel is under $1.90 (90p?) a litre. My brother was telling me that in the UK it is actually illegal to store more than 10 litres of fuel at home. I didn’t know that, is that true?
Am off for a PET scan this arvo, never had one before so am quite interested in what it involves, the girl told me I will be there for 2.5 to 3.5 hours so am taking a book.
Have a good Friday (sounds a bit religious ), for the workers it’s the weekend tomorrow - O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! as we say.
Morning all - a bit overcast but sun promised for today with top temperatures forecast at 23c as it rained for most of yesterday that will be a welcome change
Good luck with the scan Bruce. Actually you can store up to 30 litres of petrol at home in UK, although I don’t know anyone who does. Petrol in UK is around £1.43 per litre (roughly $2.75) – one of the reasons I moved within walking distance of shops and don’t drive as much as I used to!
Update on book delivery: received a second email telling me the delivery would be between 12 and 2.00 pm, my sister in law was picking me up at 12.30!! When she arrived I was tracking the delivery online and it was 5 stops away. As it was raining and I was worried the parcel would get wet we waited until the driver arrived, this made us late to the restaurant. My sister in law hadn’t booked and there were no free tables so we had to find somewhere else. We found a small pub and the food was very good – so all turned out OK in the end. We always have an enjoyable time when we get together – never run out of things to talk about!
Received a phone call last night from a friend’s husband. He is planning a surprise birthday party for her and wanted me to contact our mutual friends and find out if they could make it. He has organised the family but thought it would be a good idea if all her friends turned up together. I have sent out a group text and am waiting for final numbers before letting him know. As the party isn’t until early September hopefully they will all be able to make it.
The sun is shining and there’s a warm breeze, just my kind of day.
I had a similar situation with a parcel delivery last Friday @SheilaP. I was expecting it on Thursday but it never arrived. I then received a text on Friday to say it would be delivered between 11-12pm on Friday however, I was going out for lunch and needed to leave home by 11-45 to get there on time. The parcel hadn’t arrived before I left and there wasn’t any facility to redirect it on the email. I toyed with the idea of putting a note on the front door telling the delivery man to leave it in the garage - but then I thought that would signify an empty house to anyone passing by. Not that this is a crime-ridden area but then you never know who passes by! I hoped that it would either be delivered to a neighbour or on a return visit. After I had my lunch I checked my texts and it said the parcel had been delivered with a photo of it hanging out of the letterbox! I thought that signified an empty house more than a note on the door! When I arrived home I discovered that it had actually been pushed through the letterbox and was sitting on my doormat so panic over!
I don’t have much to report other than I enjoyed the dog walk over the fields - I doubt I would go out walking if I didn’t have a dog, it’s not the same walking alone. When I arrived home I did my ironing - I needed something to wear tomorrow because I am off to Birmingham with my son to an art exhibition called Victorian Radicals - I hope I don’t meet any other kind of radicals when I’m in Birmingham following the recent riotous behaviour of some people!
Good Morning from Foxy’s World…
Yes I’ll come to the party Sheila Although your email must have got lost in the ether…
Just a steady three and a half mile walk this morning, met a bloke going the same way as me on the canal towpath, we discussed his hip replacement and the Olympics and then parted company as we reached the road…nice chap…
Was going to clean out the gutters but have decided to do another couple of chapters of my latest book.
A very interesting take on Yorkshire and it’s people. It’s divided into different categories.
Chapter one deals with outsiders…No! not what you think, it’s the early outsiders like the Vikings and Romans.
Chapter two is the Workers…Wool, Cotton and Iron&Steel, beer (John & Samuel Smith) and cutlery etc…
Chapter three covers the writers of Yorkshire, Brontes etc…Then Chapter four, the Miners…
Chapter five covers music originating from Yorkshire…Ilkley Moor ba’ tat etc…
There’s another 11 chapters to cover, so I’m off to immerse myself…
You should all read it so you could understand what goes on in Foxy’s head…Well, maybe not…I’d get banned and then arrested…
Good morning all, we should be getting our first rain-storm this afternoon, after more than a month. I wonder? I can only see a few scattered clouds here and there, for the moment. Mind you, it can change in a matter of minutes during the Summer. @Bruce that’s a good price for petrol! We obviously have higher prices than everyone else, as usual, approx €1,88 which is about 1 pound and 57 pence. We like being at the top of the list!
I was wondering what other interests do members have beside word games. I would love to see some photos of their hobbies and/ or interests. Or such as the local scenery would be nice to find out more about different parts of where everyone lives
I wondered how my brother got it so wrong but found this:
If you own a home, motor vehicle, boat or aircraft, you can store up to 30 litres without informing anyone. However, the law requires different containers depending on the volume you’re storing:
Plastic container – up to 10 litres
Metal container – up to 20 litres
Demountable fuel tank – up to 30 litres
So you were both right.
During the fuel crisis in the1970s I had a friend that used to store a 44 gallon drum of petrol in his back garden to feed his V8
