Good Morning Friday, 2nd August 2024

Good morning on a sunny, warmer winter’s day with the temperature approaching 20° after 1mm of rain overnght.

Seemed to get a lot done this morning, unlike the garbo’s who have yet to collect my recycling bin.

Was out early getting milk and a birthday card for my grandson, he becomes a teenager next week. Coles had pork pies in so I bought a couple of those too.

Decided to try the repair mode on my new battery charger on a rather dodgy deep cycle lead acid, it is making a vibrating sort of noise so something is happening. Have ordered half a dozen connectors from Amazon so I can connect different attachments to it.

Washed my Oodie as it was getting a bit grubby, eager for it to dry.

Anyway hope you have an interesting day - take care

Nobody likes a dirty Oodie do they.

Good morning - A fresher feel to the morning after yesterday’s rain. It only lasted a hour or so but was quite heavy. Cloudy with the Sun breaking through now.

Got to go for a ‘DXA Densitrometry Lateral Spine and Hip’ scan this morning. A bone scan put more simply. The hormone therapy drug I’m on for prostate cancer can cause bone problems. My biggest worry is finding a car parking space when I get there.

Have a good day.

Morning all – looks like we had a bit of rain last night but not much – overcast this morning but feeling very muggy!

Good luck with the scan today Mart

Had a lovely meet up with friends yesterday – once again we were last to leave and the volunteers were packing up the room while we were still talking – whoops!

While in the supermarket a gentleman needed to get by and said “excuse me YOUNG lady”!!! OK so he looked about 108 but at my age I take any compliments I can get!

Today’s exciting plan is for the gutters to be cleaned – at £80 a great improvement on the previous quote! Apart from that the only other plans are to collect some medication from the pharmacy and stop ignoring the pile of ironing which has been calling to me!

Take care – have a great day

Good morning everyone. It seems slightly fresher this morning, thank goodness. The dog walk was pleasant across the fields. I didn’t see any other dog walkers this morning, I think they must go earlier during the hot weather.

I was awoken this morning by the sound of someone drilling - that’s the problem with having the windows open! It is still going in spurts but I can’t work out where it is coming from … yet. There seems to be quite a bit of building work going on in the area at the moment with extensions and the like. Ah well, the noise has stopped for the moment so peace reigns for a while.

Good luck with your scan @mart hope all goes well. I must ask @Bruce what is an Oodie? Is it the same as a hoodie or something different? Hope the gutter cleaning goes well @SheilaP I had mine done as part of a bigger job a few months ago; there was a man going door to door a few days ago asking if we wanted our gutters cleared as he was ‘doing one up the road’ when I said mine had recently been done I don’t think he believed me!

I am off out to lunch with a friend in a while. We are going to a place on a farm complex where there is also a lovely little craft shop where we will have a browse after lunch - the items on sale are quite expensive but very tempting.

Happy Friday everyone.

Everybody needs an Oodie

Though it looks better on me than her :icon_wink:

I have seen teenagers on the train and in the supermarket wearing them, personally I might wear mine to put the bins out but that’s as far as I go in it. My daughter bought it for me.

Good Morning Bruce, that looks like an interesting piece of kit, what does it do?
I try and go on the bus or walk when I have a hospital appointment Mart, parking is just impossible in a 2 mile radius around our hospital, and I only live 4 miles away. Good luck with the scan… :+1:
A rest day yesterday so it was time to give the legs some activity today. Quads still a bit stiff after all the climbing on Wednesday, I just love it though, it shows that I’ve done some good work…
So at 7:00 ish’ I rolled out on the bike for a 15 mile stint around the quiet country roads of South Yorkshire. Was making good time and keeping a good pace when some young spunk came roaring by. As his good morning was dying away I turned up the pace in pursuit…He soon disappeared around a bend at the end of a long straight…I’ll catch him next time… :sunglasses:
Another couple of miles and another rider came alongside, we chatted for a couple of minutes and he told me he was cycling to work, and then sped off… :astonished:
I managed to hang on to him for a while until he turned off, I think I could have had him……In me dreams…
Anyway, despite being shown up…Twice!..It was a decent time I thought as I staggered down the drive on rubber legs to close the gates…

A jolly good Friday morn to all  another hot and muggy day here on the east coast of the good ol’ USA.

Have a great safe and cool Friday

Every day is a blank canvas when you’re retired Raven…
The trouble is…I only have enough paint to last until the afternoon nowadays…

Good morning from the land of living dinosaurs!

Good luck with that charger, @Bruce ruce. It still sounds like a bargain. Happy birthday to your grandson; I am sure he is feeling his oats to have that teenager designation!

@mart Mart, good luck with that scan. I had no idea about the risks of bone density issues with your treatment, but I sure am glad that you are on top of it.

@MargaretF, have a very nice lunch! Like you, I had never heard of an Oodie before, but I am afraid I would never take the thing off if I bought one.

@raven1, we are sweltering here too and watching that invest coming up from the Caribbean. It’s amazing to me that they had such trouble with the tracking forecast. Saying that it would either go up the east coast - or the gulf…has been a bit of a nail biter!

@Sheila, have a nice lunch outing and well done on that quote!

@OGF, not quite the company that you had on the road this morning, but I did decide to give way to this pedestrian crossing the road during my morning run :astonished:. He’s a youngster, about 2.5 feet long.

Have a nice day!

Wow @Surfermom, that must have been frightening, I thought our wild boars were scary! Do these close encounters happen often?

It it an alligator? We liked those when we were in South…

Thanks Bruce, I like the look of that for keeping cosy.

It is indeed! A general rule of thumb is that in early years, alligators grow about one foot per year, so this one is a kid.

@Rose, it’s uncommon to see them in populated areas, but if you look for one along river banks, in swamps, or on marsh trails, one can usually fine one. They are skittish though and avoid humans.

They sound more like freshwater crocs.

I am not that familiar with alligators but salties (crocs) are an ambush predator if you can see it then you are quite safe. It’s the ones you don’t see you need to worry about.

Sadly this morning a man was reported missing, feared taken by a croc at Cooktown in north Queensland.
