Good morning to you all on a warm, sunny, spring day. There is a warm westerly wind and temperatures are already 25°.
I received a phone call from my son sailing down the Queensland coast, he told me my brother had a stroke but was recovering well. Communications is so different these days, he received a message from my brother’s daughter (his cousin obviously) telling him all about it but because my number was only on my brother’s phone they had no way of contacting me! Now I am waiting for late this arvo to ring him because at the moment it is the middle of the night in the UK.
On to more mundane matters. Had a bit of a fright last night (not really), went to bed and turned on the TV to watch the late news, the TV was fine but my soundbar wasn’t working. Touched the power supply plug/transformer and it was stone cold. First thing this morning I had it all in bits, I thought the power supply had failed but the voltage was OK, looked at the amp card, no swollen caps. Put it back together and it worked fine, I can only assume it was a dirty contact somewhere.
Still waiting for my recycling bin to be collected - it is so late these days, the green and red bin are both emptied by 7am.
Called at the opticians yesterday to book a routine check up, and they said - Oh, there’s been a cancellation, we can do you tomorrow!
So that’s what I’ll be doing this morning
Might get my hair cut while I’m in town, so that will be every thing done this week - teeth, hair, & eyes
We are having difficult times at the moment with my Father in law, but at the same time, trying to keep a sense of normality until the inevitable, with no idea when that will happen. It’s difficult not to think of yourselves when all your thoughts and efforts are with others, especially in times of distress.
So we are going to try to have a normal day (this is, normal for us) and attend to my FIL later in the day. He does have a stream of other visitors throughout the day and my brother in law stayed with him all night, so he is never alone for long.
So for now, the saga continues…have a great day all.
Good morning - A free day for us, meaning no medical appointments, responsibilities or anything else. The new cordless vacuum cleaner works well, although emptying it is not as easy as some. It will be OK with a little practice I expect. Claimed suction power seems relevant. Some are 100 watts and go from there upwards. Ours is 210 watts I don’t know how they gauge this but it looks to be something to go by. Just about managed to squeeze it into a cupboard.
Sorry to read about your ongoing difficult times Graham. It sure is hard when the previous generation or family members start to leave us.
Yes, I know this from experience. It can be quite wearing to have troublesome bed neighbours. Glad you are happier with the new ones and hope the phone cleans up and works OK.
There’s going to be trouble!
Starmer has decided to issue everyone with ID cards and the people are not happy.
A big demo is scheduled in London for October 16th I think.
Lots of people are not going to have one but they will just stop you from using your bank account without one so watch this space…Remember ‘Poll Tax?’
Another cold day but sunny.
Usual walk along the towpath and just showered and had breakfast. The sun coming up late is making me late, too dark first thing, so I’m looking forward to the clocks going back in October so it’s a bit lighter in the mornings. I don’t know why they have to bugger about with them twice a year, we should be on GMT all the time in my opinion.
Good afternoon good People,it’s a mild sunny/cloudy one here…I’ve missed most of the morn as I slept for almost 10 hours last night…Jings!..I was having such a lovely dream I guess I didn’t want to wake up…I was young and full of Life running/dancing around… …what a disappointment when I awakened to find I’m a slightly overweight Octogenarian whose Life is quickly running out
Enjoy the rest of Your day Folks,x
Good morning from the stratus cloud skies of Florida. Mornings are starting later, which sadly restrict when I can and can’t run, but I managed a few hours of running before getting back to the house @OGF, I am with you on setting the clock and being done with it! My daughter has a doctor’s appointment later, so we’ll be taking care of that and stopping at the farm stand for produce, mums, and pumpkins. If we can’t have fall weather here yet, we can at least fake it!
@Bruce I hope your brother is quickly on the mend with no lingering issues. There must be something off with the planet’s sound engineer with all these speakers and sound systems going wonky.
I hope the rest of you find better health and rest for you and your families. @May it’s a strange thing to have those dreams that take one back, my favorites are the ones that include family and dogs who are no longer around. There is something to be said for being at an age in which you don’t have to worry about whether or not you should have the cake! I hope your day is a good one.
That’s about it for me; after the appointment, I hope to attend to the garden beds (the intrusion of grass, and help my daughter with afternoon coffee and tea at the assisted living community nearby.
Good afternoon everyone, Autumn has definitely arrived, it was only 14C when I got up this morning, the first time I had to wear sweater and jacket to drive to my gym class. Big difference in the afternoon, right up to 26C! It’s time to start doing all the change of season chores, putting away garden furniture, wardrobe ordering, lots to do outside too.
We’ve always had ID cards @OldGreyFox , it’s illegal not to have one. To be renewed every 10 years. We need them even just to withdraw money from our own personal accounts at certain places, for example the Post Office. When we recharge prepaid debit cards we have to show our ID cards. If we’re stopped by a police block, we are required to show identity but a drivers license is also efficient if we don’t happen to have our ID card at that moment. It’s perfectly normal here to just to keep them in our purses/wallets alongside whatever else we usually carry around.
Sorry for what you’re going through @swimfeeders, wishing you a speedy recovery.
I hope your brother recovers well from his stroke @Bruce
Later I’m driving my son into town to pick up his car from the mechanic/car electrician, who has had to install a new alternator in his car, after our village mechanic had thought it was the battery and changed it… but it wasn’t! I don’t even want to mention the costs!!!
I agree @Surfermom, there must be something really funny going on, apart from my tablet acting strangely, our TV remote control started going crazy, some of the buttons didn’t work, some did and some just started doing weird things. I got a new one from Amazon andwhen it arrived, the old one started functioning again, perfectly!
Not for long though, a few days later it refused to come back to life, so fingers crossed now that the new one will last a long time.
Have a good start to the weekend everyone and special thoughts for those of you going through a hard time.
I am so thrilled you have that - along with the Shropshire hills - outside your window! The three months I was in the hospital at Duke University with my daughter, the building of a new pediatric wing just outside the window was a joy and education to watch. Isn’t it amazing how much there is to learn about commercial construction? It’ such a pleasant distraction. Keep us posted on how it goes!
I love watching cranes at work Swim, it’s a job I would have loved. sitting high up in your own little office with the beautiful views, it must be like God feels looking down on his flock.
I would imagine the job carries loads of responsibility.
This massive beast, not a tower crane but was able to lift a whole bridge by itself. When extended I couldn’t get it all in the photo…
