Good morning to everyone at the end of the working week.
Yesterday’s promised rain and storms turned out to be a real fizzer, it was fine all day and only 5mm of rain during the night (less than the night before).
On my walk this morning there was a clear cloudless sky despite of promised showers.
When I was doing my little job on my camper yesterday I discovered that my lantern appeared to have been left on and the battery was flat. I was a bit peeved I can tell you, it wasn’t a cheap lantern and the only person that could have left it on was me
I charged it up and it does seem to have taken and kept the charge overnight so I am hoping the lithium battery hasn’t been irreparably damaged and that the BMS saved it.
The weekend beckons to those among us who work. Enjoy your Friday.
Yet another day of glorious sunshine forecast for West Sussex. Stuff to attend to first thing and then off to meet a rather lovely lady for a couple of gin and tonics at lunch time
A buddy of mine is boxing up a camera ready for sending special delivery. It was her late father’s and she’s decided to sell it. I’m going to put a battery in it, give it the once over and then we’ll amicably settle on a price.
I already have an AE -1 (lovely cameras) and a selection of lenses but being able to own two different cameras loaded with different film speeds, grain structure etc is a blessing.
There’s definitely something to be said for having two bodies… don’t I know it!!!
Yesterday I had a water leak on our boiler and had the minor hassle of getting it repaired, although it was all done under warranty, but it stressed the wife out somewhat as it meant having to move stuff around. But at least it’s sorted.
I had another bit of devastating news when I went for my daily walk. My usual route is by a waterway, which is home to a family of swans, Canadian geese and assorted ducks & coots. This is on land owned by English Heritage and is surrounded by trees, which they decided to cut down. This has caused an uproar because they have destroyed a few nests in the process that provide protection for the birds and fish. The swans are about to make their own nest and the trees provide shelter from the road nearby and vandals who have attacked them in the past, or stolen their eggs. Now they are fully exposed. This has caused a local uproar with demands the local council get involved as well as our useless MP. The area did need a bit of tidying, but not to this degree and at the wrong time of the year.
Men’s Shed this morning; nothing planned for this afternoon
Can I ask your opinions on something?
Some of you might remember that one of my hobbies is making knives; and one of the main activities of a Men’s Shed is woodwork
So I’ve been thinking of making a matching kitchen chopping board and chef’s knife, with the board and the knife handle made from the same piece of wood, probably beech
You can buy chef’s and other culinary blades, and beech wood is easy enough to find
Other Shedders are interested, and we would make them on request for local people, and a few to sell at the annual craft fair
One problem is the price - blades cost from about £20 to £!00 or more, and not everyone appreciates or is willing to pay for a good knife, so we’d probably start with something cheap to see what sort of interest & response there is
Morning all – yes, the sun is shining again – could this mean Spring has finally arrived?
The beast was good last night, no little gifts for me. She again let me cuddle her for a while but I was then dismissed. Although the sun is shining it is still a bit chilly and she refused to leave the house so I will have to go back in later to see if she has changed her mind.
The new electric fire is being installed next week and as they are taking the cable out through the wall and running it up to the chimney outside I thought I should clear the outside space for them. This is a pathway at the side of the house which dead ends at the fence. I moved some old bins which the previous owners had stored there only to find a pile of bricks hidden behind them! So I think part of my day today will be spent moving those bricks!
Good Day Everyone…
Late back from my walk today as I added another bit onto the end making it a six miler.
I carried on past Northfield bridge and down to the Aqueduct. It’s where the canal passes over the river Don. The level of water in the canal is kept at a constant, but when the river is in flood it can actually flow into the canal, so the big gates come down to cut off the canal from the flood water.
That’s a sad scene. How would they like it if someone just went round to their homes destroying their protective shelters? I’m referring to whoever gave the orders of course, these guys are unfortunately just doing their jobs.
