Arrr, good mornin’ to ye all on this here Speak Like a Pirate Day! The sun be shinin’ bright and all be right with the world, ye scallywags!
The day be a-comin’ up to the mid-20s, aye, but she’ll be coolin’ off come nightfall with a change in the wind.
I tried to hook me old drone to the new controller this mornin’, but alas! They be no more compatible than a parrot and a sea lion! I might be givin’ the ol’ bird to me grandson to have a go with, though I ain’t made up me mind yet.
‘Tis a fine mornin’, that it is! Aye, I reckon I’ve had enough o’ this here computer for now—time to get me boots on and breathe in the fresh air, arrr.
Have yerself a grand Friday, mate! Be ye lookin’ forward to the weekend’s adventures?
In the same theme , How did Captain hook die? He scratched his backside with the wrong hand. Why don’t budgerigars eat asperins? because parrots eat em all.
Good morn Bruce even though it still is the middle of the night.
Talking of nights. Once a king always a king, but once a night is enough.
I’m going to the Men’s Shed this morning, then this afternoon I’ll be driving to Pickering, Yorkshire for a long weekend, so I won’t be posting anything else until next week
My father in law is still in hospital and not making any progress. He was admitted for water retention and has become delusional and incoherent. We are not sure if its the medications he’s on or there is some other cause. Yesterday he apparently accused my wife of certain things, not knowing what he’s saying, which upset my wife terribly. We are going back there later today when we have contacted the doctors. But it looks like he’ll be kept in until next week.
Meanwhile, my phone service provider has messed up my account and I’ve lost my mobile data facility. Seriously unhappy on top of everything else.
Good afternoon from a very wet Lanarkshire, finished what I was doing in the garden, just piles of leaves to sort out…no rush,
(((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) to Our Members who are going through a bad time.xx
Good Morning/Afternoon Shipmates and landlubbers…
An early appointment at the hospital yesterday morning for Mrs Fox’s ECG…very
thorough and informative, but results to follow in a few days, and prevented me from posting. We made a day of it and moved on to a secluded restaurant for lunch…(we actually parked outside Greggs at the motorway services had a sandwich, and watched the world go by)
A warm 16 degrees C this morning, probably warmer due to the high humidity.
Nice’n dry though for an early walk down the lane and into the woods. Trees and bushes full of berries…That path into the woods and away from the hustle and bustle of the main road always looks so inviting…
£665 it’s going to cost me to cancel my contract with BT however, Quickline (my new server) said they will pay…They better had now, because all my BT stuff is packed up and ready to send back to them.
Enjoy your stay on this side of the Pennines Zulu…The North York Moors were my regular stamping ground…My favourite race was the 42 mile scamper from Osmotherly in the west to Ravenscar on the coast, known as the Lyke Wake…
My hiking days are over too Swimmy, I should do the same as you and part with my stuff, but never say never…
Welcome back Mart, I think you can be excused, having had so much on your mind the last week or so. I’ll go and see what you posted…
From being in the Scouts I went on to be very keen on hiking, backpacking, and a bit of easy climbing -
Around the Lake District, Highlands, Peak District, and including the Lyke Wake Walk
But time comes for all of us
I can no longer do anything serious, just easy rambles around the local lanes and back streets, it’s surprising what kind of interesting things you can find; but don’t kid yourself that it’s as good as a decent tough hike
However I have been doing Tai Chi, which is a martial art, but not as aggressive as things like judo or karate, it’s more to do with balance, stretching, and coordination
Nevertheless at the end of a session I definitely feel as though I’ve done something
To help me get out & about I’ve been going to jazz, folk, & blues festivals
Earlier this year I was Searching for blues festivals, and on one line up I saw a familiar name -
It was a friend I went to school with, more than 50 years ago
He remembered me and since retiring he has formed a blues band and will be playing at a beer festival in Pickering, where he has retired to.
We’re meeting in a pub the day before, both of us wondering if we’ll still recognise each other I’m sure we’ll manage.
After that I’m going to Whitby to buy some jet earrings for my daughter (I bought some for my wife years ago).
Mornin’ buccaneers, from the safe harbor of Florida where the sun’s been shinin’ brighter than pirate gold since Blackbeard scoured these waters! My scurvy dogs had me since the first light bent around the foresail.
@Graham, I am so sorry to read about your dad. It’s a small consolation but delirium is an unfortunate symptom of kidney problems, and things can be said that are as far from intent as anyone can imagine. I hope your wife knows that your dad is saying things that would never, every cross his mind in better days.
It’s looking lovely in Yorkshire this morning. I suppose we all yearn for the long hike, the mountain climb, and following the beaches around “just one more bend.” One bit of wisdom that we gain as we age is what an absolute miracle it is that our bodies performed so well for so long - and what a joy that was! It has every driven my daughter bonkers that in doctors’ offices I pore over anatomy posters and wax poetic in amazement of it all.
To maintain our condo building insurance, I am having to guide an inspector through a four-point inspection (roof, electrical, plumbing, HVAC) which will have me scrambling up ladders and around hot attics trying to convince the underwriters that our hurricane premium should be reduced - a number so ghastly that I won’t even mention it.
As for the rest of the day, I’ll be doing the latest round of deep cleaning so the house is always ready for the unexpected showing. I confess that cleaning house is not my favorite thing to do, so I’ll be escaping the tedium with Marco Polo’s adventures between my otherwise empty ears.
It’s a good day for pirates, wenches, and salty dogs to be alive! Calm winds and following seas, maties!
Good afternoon everyone on another extremely hot day, it’s 37C at the moment. I think it’s now official that September is going to end up being hotter than August, even though next week, storms are forecast with drastic drop in temperatures. I’ve just been attacked by mosquitoes while hanging out washing to dry, underneath my porch which is protectected from the lion sun. I didn’t think of using repellent just for a couple of minutes out there! It has never happened before. It was scorching hot, that’s for sure. I looked like I was learning new dance moves, the way I was dodging those nasty creatures, waving my arms and legs around! They still bit me, so now it’s time for some cortisone lotion. It isn’t usually this bad, perhaps towards the end of Summer they become more aggressive and call out all their yucky friends to gather round together and attack at all costs, before being forced away by cooler weather!
Just shows how the internet has changed things. When I worked for the then GPO Telephones planning fill was something like 1 to 3 in 10 houses had a phone, poles like that (DPs) would have two or three wires. It was a shock to come to Australia and find that just about every house had a phone and none were shared service…
To be fair, I think most of those wires will be coming down once BT and others change all the phones over to fibre. I think the government wanted superfast fibre broadband rolled out to every house in England, so various companies came and strung up fibre as quickly as possible. I think once the system is up and running, they will come back and make a tidier job.
Hopefully anyway…
I have just received my adaptor from Quickline and BT have now ended my contract and disabled my landline.
Apparently, I can fit the adaptor myself and convert the analogue phone to a digital one using the internet. My landline network in the house is no ordinary network …I mean…What could possibly go wrong…
