Went for my Monday coffee and cake this morning and one of my friends showed me the new King Charlie of Australia two dollar coin. It is the first one I have seen. I took a pic with my phone.
Morning all – bright sunshine this morning with temperatures forecast to reach 27c (sorry Bruce) Yesterday proved to be a lovely warm day – which meant getting out the watering can in the evening to give the planters a long drink – that is getting to be hard work
I have yet to see a coin or even a bank note with the King’s portrait on it Bruce - the use of cash is getting less and less in UK - most shops and banks want people to use cards. I still carry cash but am finding I am using it less and less.
The two books I was expecting were finally delivered at 6.15 last night – actually felt sorry for the delivery driver, he looked very tired and harassed – I know they work long hours and are rushed to get all their deliveries done.
Currently trying to find a company to renovate some antique cast iron garden furniture – those I have contacted only deal with modern aluminium furniture. Very frustrating. Once that is done I plan to have a small summer house built to put it in
Plan on taking advantage of the good weather and get more laundry done, some grocery shopping then back to sorting things before calling in the auctioneer!
As I understand it the king won’t appear on any of our bank notes. At the moment the Queen is only on the $5 note but I read that they are going to replace her portrait with something Australian not the monarch but I have no idea what.
King Charlie is on all the coins being produced in the mint now but as I say I have yet to have one myself, that $2 coin was the first I have seen.
Morning all, been out for a long walk, then took the car to Tescos, spent ages there because the shelve/aisles are deliberately laid out to confuse. Got back, had a pizza for lunch. Can’t compete with @Bruce for excitement.
Captured this shot of my car thermometer on my way home earlier! It was only 37C where I live
Unless you’re one of the lucky ones on holiday by the sea or up on a mountain resort, we have no choice but to stay indoors for the rest of the day, blinds down to stop that boiling hot sun coming in. Air conditioning if necessary, or just a fan.
You could fry an egg on the ground in our front yard, I’ve never tried but it has been done before, in our nearby town.
That is a beauty of a coin, Bruce and definitely too much trouble to counterfeit. I wonder if the blue and lime colors will rub off in time? I keep a little change in my car, but I can’t recall the last time I had any change on me when I was out and about.
Sheila, I very much like the idea of restoring that iron furniture. It seems like my parents had a marine repair company ending up doing the work because there just wasn’t anyone else close enough to do the work.
Rose, we are in similar straits with the temps starting at a balmy 33 by 8:00 a.m. this morning. I experienced exactly what you described this time last year, cooking in the sauna of Venice (though who would notice; it’s always so fascinating) and then chasing down hot chocolate and fireplaces up in the chilly Dolomites. I think you have it figured out!
We are watching a storm system brewing in the southern Caribbean. This is the time of year that the first thing most everyone does is to check Mike’s Weather Page, which is the place to nerd out on every sort of model from Saharan dust (which quells formation) to the dozens of track models. Good stuff.
The contractors are back, and I expect that these good-natured, laid-back, Type B guys will be here for the holidays. They are not exactly - in a hurry.
Other than that, it’s another day of yard work and sanding the table, with the Olympics on for background noise.
This morning I visited the shopping centre where I had a problem with the escalator last week - not being able to get onto the one going down. This week I had more success, I was able to use it going both ways! I went with a positive mindset that I could do it, and I did. Mind over matter I think. I was determined not to be beaten by it. I now feel more confident about my trip to London in a few weeks time.
I’ve just done some online clothes shopping from my favourite store, a little reward for getting to grips with the escalator (well that’s my excuse anyway).
I haven’t seen any coins with the King’s head on yet either @Bruce you’re way ahead of us down there in Australia. Though I did read that some coins aren’t being minted here this year because there is a surplus of them - smaller denominations I think. I do have some stamps with the King’s head on though, does that count?
Another very warm day here too - my car’s temperature gauge said 27 degrees on my way home from the shopping centre. It’s nice and cool in home though with the blinds closed.
Don’t forget that was the first one I have seen too.
Our lowest denomination coin is 5c, the 1c and 2c coins were abandoned years ago as they cost more to produce than they were worth, we only have 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 coins now and some people throw the 5 and 10 cent coins away as useless shrapnel (young people certainly do). I would not be surprised to see the 5 cent coin go soon.
The 5, 10 and 20 cent coins are the same size as the old 6d, shilling and 2 bob coins
