Glenda Jackson: Double Oscar-winning actress and former MP dies aged 87

Jackson became an international star in the 1970s, winning Oscars for Women In Love and A Touch of Class, and receiving two further nominations.

She also starred as Queen Elizabeth I in the acclaimed BBC drama Elizabeth R.

Politics was always important, and she gave up acting to join the House of Commons as a Labour MP in north London from 1992 to 2015.

What a life … an amazing lady … :+1:

That was a twist I wasn’t expecting from the article. She went back to acting until her death. The first part of the article seemed to bring out her disdain for the industry.

I’ve recently been rewatching her brilliant portrayal of Elizabeth the 1st, in the BBC series Elizabeth R. Wonderful piece of acting of that Queen, from a young age to her dying day. She never seemed to take the luvvie scene at all seriously, which is a big plus in her favour. Rip.

RIP Glenda

That clip is blocked in the UK

Everyone knows it anyway.
All men are fools and what makes them so is having beauty like what I have got!

Amazingly, it’s a lot longer than I remembered so Glenda did well to remember her (terrible) lines …
