Death to Rosemary West? Death to Jimmy Saville? Many people were calling for the re-introduction of the death penalty for such people. Is that call a hate crime?
I suppose each case is judged on it’s merits Lincs.
Even so, it’s not our job to decide who dies and who doesn’t, even with the likes of Saville and West, and I don’t think there were chants to kill them at a music festival…
They used to at Tottenham matches. It didnt make national headlines
Would there have been that many people at a Tottenham Match Annie?
I mean they are not like Doncaster Rovers are they…
I used to be up on the shelf side at White Hart Lane during the 70s Annie. Are you referring to the players or the fans?
I’m referring to both sets of fans, spurs and opponents . I don’t know much about the player behaviour, there was an opposing fan arrested for hissing last year. It’s been long standing issue. But none of this created a national news debate. It seems there is a lot of cherry picking of news and then we have media saturation on one topic. There’s hardly any real news broadcast.
Tottenham Hotspur ask fans to ‘move on’ from using ‘anti-Semitic’ Y-word | CNN https://share.google/2aPBjTf0ehlpl1JgK
People go to matches for the football and to glasto for music. Nobody remembers what a singer says. Now it’s just given this band lots of publicity
Without getting too bogged down with the history off Spurs the Y word was also chanted with much enthusiasm by the home crowd, bonding perhaps? Tottenham had links with the Jewish community. I’m not Jewish, it’s not for me to comment on wether this was appropriate or not.
In today’s increasingly fractured internet driven society what happened at Glastonbury should be of concern as far as I’m concerned.
Of more concern than what the genocidal IDF are doing daily?
Certainly as that is hugely under-reported. And no-one in the media or government dares criticize Israel for what it is doing. But the newspapers and certain politicians love demonstrating their forced outrage at a bit of chanting. So everyone can get much more concerned about that
True but we are talking about calling for or chanting for some form of reprisal for terrible acts committed. Such calling for is not deciding, it’s, err, calling for something. And the venue or forum for such calls for reprisals does not matter - if so, how?
PS Rosemary West killed 10 women / children. Jimmy Saville abused many but killed none. What is the IDF tally on killing children so far this year? Five thousand? Six thousand? Frankly at that level of slaughter of the innocent such chants should be mandatory at all public events.
Back to Glasto, for a minute … I think it’s about time Neil Young was put out to grass, pun intended, bless his heart. He was the business 50 years ago.
And I’m pleased to say The Libertines are as entertaining as ever. Rock on whippersnappers.
Does it have to be either or Helen?
To be candid what’s happening at home and how what’s going on domestically might effect my family and the future are always foremost in my mind. That might be unpalatable to some but it’s my reality and I make no apologies for saying so.

By definition, were global now, international events dictate what goes on at home.
The Chancellor’s in tears on the front bench.
Nah!
Keep the home fires burning…
And I’m getting old.
You noted Neil’s state earlier.
HI for clarification and for those unaware of the song / background
“Strange Fruit” is a powerful and haunting song, originally a poem, that serves as a stark protest against the lynching of Black people in the American South. Written by Abel Meeropol, a Jewish teacher, it gained widespread recognition when popularized by Billie Holiday. The song’s lyrics vividly depict the gruesome image of lynching victims, comparing their bodies to “strange fruit” hanging from trees
