Gardening humour

Back in the 80’s I worked with 2 keen vegetable gardeners. One, I’ll call him Bill, had a wicked sense of humour & once got into the garden of the other, who I will call Ben, & picked a lovely bunch of small red flowers for Bens wife, from Bens garden. Runner bean flowers. And just sufficient to be a joke & not damage Bens crop too much.

Another year Bill claimed to have a glut of young cabbage plants. Bill kept dropping hints, every time Ben mentioned them, but it was not until Ben asked that Bill brought a dozen plants in for Ben, all wrapped in moist newspaper, to keep them healthy.

After a few conversations between the two about Bens cabbages, Ben went quiet. A few weeks later Bill asked Ben what he was growing this year & after a list of vegetables & fruit, he asked Ben what happened to the cabbages. At that point, Ben admitted he also had a small crop of Sugar Beet.
