Garage Door

Hi RS, I have a piece of timber cut to the exact width of the new door, I checked at four reference points and it is exactly 20mm short between the two uprights fitted today. Tomorrow I have to fit a 10mm inner frame each side then the brackets on the metal door frame will fix into the large timbers fitted today with coach bolts, saving fixing into the wonky brickwork.

Not the best ever briklaying that is for sure, the cement between the bricks is all over the place.

Even I manage to build an 18x8ft rear flank extn to the back of a previous house behind and attached to the garage with the walls level and upright many years ago now.

Yep, worst I’ve ever seen, the place was built circa 1964, there must have been a cement shortage at the time, hence what appears to be a 9 to 1 cement/sand mix on the mortar, or, an apprentice was allowed to let rip on the garages, still, that will make it easier to demolish it and rebuild it.

Still waiting for the Plastic Centre to reopen to get those timber side supports cladded.

Yipee, its open for click and collect, cheap as well, 5 mtr of 95mm X 5.5mm board ÂŁ9.72 and 2 x 3 mtr of 25mm x 25mm rigid angle ÂŁ3.54 each.

Picked the UPVc up, needed two lengths of 95mm X 5.5mm, before I start, the substantial screws that hold the main timber frame are proud by a couple of millimetres, these were a bugger to drive in so, taking then out and counter sinking could be a pain, I think I will glue some thin plastic to the timber so the cladding lies flush.

Change of plan, this corner moulding that will cover the corner join is 25mm in each direction which means the cladding can be mechanically fixed underneath, and adhesive used at the other side, sorted.

I was going to suggest that too Spitty, but if the hole hasn’t been countersunk I doubt that the screw would crush the wood and sink below the surface, especially if that frame is hardwood.

I reckon the frame itself might move before the screws do.

iIt’s a bit frustrating, I need a length of 95mm X 5.5mm to complete UPVc to go across the top to slide into the recess on the soffit board, then (where the packers are) a 10mm square extrusion, meaning no silicone sealant required, but tried three suppliers and all seem to be closed today.
