I was reading about front door colours and how the right colour adds value to your house. So I thought - what’s the best colour? It turns out the best colour is red. Now there is no way that I will paint the front door red. Would you?
I’m thinking of going for something like a dark teal or gunmetal blue. I would never be brave enough to go for black which is apparently also a good option. At the moment it’s a boring but inoffensive white. I’m just terrible at making my mind up about something so significant. I mean you have to look at it every time you come home.
So which in your opinion is the best colour to sell your house?
Ours is a Black composite door with silver knocker and letter box Annie.
It gets very warm when the sun shines on it and it faces south east so gets the sun in the mornings. The only drawback is the fact that being composite it’s made up of different materials with different coefficients, so it makes a cracking noise as it warms and then cools…
It doesn’t really matter whether it affects the value of the house because when I leave here it will be in a box…
Hopefully, not a composite one…
Our door is white to match our double glazing we had put in years ago. In fact every door in our street is white with different windows set within them. I suppose if they were some outlandish colour it might affect house price, as new owners would want to replace or repaint it.
I always wanted to paint the front door of my previous property a high gloss black, however, due to the age of the building we would have needed permission so never did. My current front door encloses the porch and is white uPVC!
we recently upgraded our front door from wood (brown) to a composite (white) one. . The old one looked as if “Mr Bodget” the previous owner had messed about with it. Even had polyfiller around the receiving part of the lock
Isn’t red supposed to be good feng shui … along with a nice red doormat and no clutter around the door.
I’ve always paid more attention to door knockers but not many people seem to have them now with bland UPVC doors.
Some of them used to be quite ornate and and gothic looking but then again I love gargoyles on downspouts on guttering too.
I would love a new front door but can’t afford one. But i have a thing about cleaning it . I have to wash/ polish the door and surround regularly because its white and gets really dirty . My thoughts are , a dirty front door means an untidy house .
A new door is about £800 upwards now and thats just a cheapie .
Despite this property. Consecutively owned by six generations.

Frequently gets random knocks. On the Solid Wood Stable style door, Enquiring.
The first feature, that must have attracted. Pivotal to a primary comment.
Such as.
“The door would need to be changed for a Glass Doubled Glazed. Letting more light in”.The conversation ending there!
Since having, on one, and only occasion. Allowing the curious in. They subsequently proposed any valuation to be significantly less.
Due to the Old Fashioned Door. And two foot wide granite walls were only insulated. With decades of purposefully adequate Horse Hair.
They were invited to exit, via the ‘Lower portion of the Door’. With their handheld calculator.
Why people trawl coastal heritage, villages. To escape the hustle and bustle of city and suburbia conformities’.
Only to Change what they discarded. Beggar’s Belief.
I was amazed at how easy these UPVC Doors can be kicked in,
Just one hard push on the lower panel and the complete square pushes through, Leaving a nice big gap for even the largest robber to fit through, (Ask your Police crime prevention officer about this subject & upvc doors)
I believe in quality in all things in life ie you get what you pay for, every thing from clothing!!!
I like Tweed Jackets/suits Good Leather coats or Jackets,
Good leather shoes after all your feet are in them for around 8 hours,at least, they look good / Polish well and fit well,
Same goe’s for vehicles do your home work on the milage your going to do and if you want value for money ?
Or running for parts every few months, Ive had my car for 18yrs now and it’s still got the same exhaust system from when it was bought,
No rust anywere, A very comfortable car to drive and good looking car,
Now front door or door’s Again value for money,
We have solid oak door’s “No letter box fitted” letter box’s fitted to front doors is a draft entrance area,
Have a letter box fitted outside on a wall mounting bracket, As for the paint job? A good wood stain completed with a good varnish , (Have a chat with the police crime prevention people ref upvc doors and how easy they are to break into,?
And last important "TIP " Bed, again you should as the norm be in it 8 hours sleeping time So have the best matterest you can afford and buy a bed your going to like the look of for many years to come,
Perhaps a four poster, one thats made by a company that make quality beds "Not one of these excuses for looking like a four poster but shakes everytime you turn over Buy once and you’ll not regret it,
I have noticed that is the trend now. Some neighbours (with fancy door colours) have painted the whole ensemble. I’m not sure how it would look though. I might try the door first and do the rest if it feels good.
AS for house values it depends where one lives. The way things are going it won’t be long before the value? will be double what we paid for it abut 10 years ago
