My older brother has a couple of canaries - one male, one female, named liddle fella and liddle girlfriend respectively.
Liddle girlfriend is the violent thug of the two. Every now and again she flies down from the top of the curtain and gives liddle fella a good hard pecking over the head, then flies off again! LOL! 
Liddle fella is very loud when he sings. Liddle girlfriend hardly sings, if at all - she says it all with her fists! 
Edit: Just a thought, Pixie. Are you sure your canary is male? Females are usually the ones which don’t sing according my bro.
Well, he used to have a brother (I called them The Boys, because I couldn’t tell them apart) but he died last year They competed in singing competitions and it was LOUD! Now though, he sits quietly while I play him canary songs on Youtube.
