I notice there are no training videos above using an Afghan Hound. The above only show easily trained type of dog, even the famous Barbara Woodhouse failed miserably. I had the chance to show her up at a dog show No, show me a dog trainer that can train and Afghan Hound and I will be impressed, having owned quite a few over the past years
I certainly would avoid this guy and his training methods. Why? just watched him using what he calls a slip lead and not a check lead/chain. Also no mention of the correct way to put it over the dogs head with the loupe underneath, the other way it would lock up, pure basic instructions even before using it on a dog. I am guessing there is no mention either on which side of a person a dog should be walked on.
He doesnât cover the heal work, his videos arenât done for that, he mentioned in other videos how to put a slip lead on and it goes right up at the back of the ears. He hasnât got time to do everything in a video. He only deals with the one problem that needs correcting straight away. Afghan hounds are still a dog and can treat them that way.he doesnât use a check lead chain, he uses a prong collar which doesnât hurt them it doesnât go into the neck. He hasnât come across Afghan hounds that have a very serious problem thatâs what he deals in and rescue dogs that have a lot of problems and might be put down.probably more than Afghan hounds. Thereâs a lot more trainers on YouTube if thatâs what youâre looking for, heâs not the only one.
Good grief a prong collar? What kind of trainer uses one of those? I am shocked and disgusted maybe the RSPCA should look into his methods. No mention of a halti then?
Iâm glad I donât have to deal with any of that crap.
For well over 20 years and boarded hundreds of dogs of all types in our kennels licenced for 116 dogs, never ever had to use anything but voice commands or ordinary leads to handle a dog. Also owned many dogs for the last 50 years never even needed wanted or used that type of collar
No i havenât used any of them only a slip lead and Iâve had golden retrievers for 25 years and been to training classes for a very long time, just because we liked going there but our dogs didnât really need it.
Such a pity these collars are still legal inspite of advice and petitions to try and get them banned.
For those who think they donât hurt, I would like them to volunteer to wear one so they can then be dragged around and videod to show others how its done.
I agree. Neither would I.
I think that I did watch a video with him using one on himself but itâs so long ago I canât remember where it was.i wouldnât use one on mine but tried half chain collar and it doesnât work and can go into the neck just as bad and injure the neck.
Some owners use those Ecollars but I wouldnât use them. Even slip leads have to make sure that theyâre in the right position. I think that they can do damage if not correct,Iâve used them but they slip down and have to put them back up, gave up on them. Ours just have the normal collar and lead now and they are fine with them.
