I like Vera too… many years ago when it aired I also liked Columbo. I loved the way the murderer always under estimated him and at the very end of the show regretted it

Quality telly then though, don’t you think? Not saying that today’s is rubbish per se, but it does lack a certain charm. I watched a couple of Rockford files earlier - good stuff, thanks!

I liked Rowan Atkinson in the new(er) version of Maigret.
I really enjoyed the Miss Marple series starring Joan Hickson.
Not technically detectives, but more crime fighters were Hiram Holiday, whose weapon of choice was a brolly, and Get Smart were a couple of my favourites from yesteryear, as well as programmes such as The Last Detective, as in the last detective you would want on a case despite the fact that he was actually quite good at solving crimes.
Then there was Inspector Gadget in a class all of his own.
