Engaged Before Marriage

I copied it for you:-

… … I married my darling blondie 54+yrs ago after she proposed to me on stage following a performance. What’s that, how did we meet? She was my short lead singer and completely captured my heart during our first prolonged kiss on stage just after a performance; but we first met when she was 11 after her brother, a fellow guitar player, took me back to meet his family. We have a 5yr age and 20" height gap, but that doesn’t matter as we are completely into each other

I remember that song, Brian Adams sang it…it’s such a powerful song…came from his heart I believe, as a singer they need to get behind the emotion of the song…

Maybe you can explain it better,LD…as I read you were a singer…?

What a beautiful story. :cupid:

I proposed to V, on bended knee, via a telephone call. Yes, I kid you not. She was back in England and I was in Rome. I sent her 2 dozen red roses from a grower in Guernsey via Royal Mail. I wasn’t even divorced from my ex at the time and, although V said yes, she reminded me that she thought we would wait until my divorce had come through ( ooops). That was about 6 months after we had got together. We married in December 1989. The engagement ring I bought her (3 rows of 5 diamonds on white gold) was stolen in a burglary in 1997.

He did ask me, but asked my Dad first if my Dad would let him marry me. Dad said only too pleased to get shot of her, joking of course. We had a laugh over it. He took me to buy an engagement ring in April & let me chose from a selection tray. I didn’t go for the most expensive one. :grinning: He put it on my finger in the shop, it fitted.
We were married in the September of that year, 1966 at a registry office, much to my mothers shock, she wanted us to marry earlier, but the date was already set before I knew. Dad said you can have the money saved as a deposit for a house. In January 1967 our first born arrived, a boy. We had bought our own home, but didn’t move in straight away as it needed work, OH did most of it, we stayed with my parents til Son was 6 weeks old, then we moved into our own home. Daughter arrived in 1971, I had a miscarriage in 1969. We were married for nearly 50 years, he sadly died a few months before that anniversary.
BTW I hated where we lived & we were there 6 years before moving to Devon. I love Devon & would never want to go back to Slough, horrible place. :grinning:

Awww, what a sad loss. A burglary is such an invasive thing to happen but to lose in that fashion the ring is horrid!
