They are trying every trick in the book to make me have one. I am Ignoring them.
Yep thatâs to be expected. he thing is, for a short while, whilst the cat is still in the bag and people remain ignorant of what is really coming, they will have the upper hand. Yes I may have to pay a special tariff for a while which seems expensive . . . . BUT . . . . I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that in the not too distant future, when they finally announce Variable Rate Billing, everyone else will see their bills double or triple and those who held out will be laughing.
Once you cave in and accept a Smart Meter thereâs no going back.
Smart Meters exist for one purpose and itâs NOT to save energy and the planet, it is to make $billions for corrupt energy companies and all the politicians and other stooges along the food chain getting back-handers. Donât be a victim. Refuse to have a Smart Meter.
Donât ignore the utilities. Be proactive and clear.
Inform them NOW that you will not accept a Smart Meter under any circumstances and ask them to log that on your account record.
Put a laminated A4 sheet inside your meter boxes that states clearly that no-one must install a Smart Meter at your property otherwise you will take legal action.
My meter is indoors so they are not getting anywhere near it.
I popped off an email to Scottish Power complaining about the agressive sales tactic of their caller today. I asked if it will be compulsory in law to have a meter fitted by 2020 has claimed by their agent. I await their reply with interest.
( the bastard wasnât even Scottish)
Was he Muslim?
What an odd question
Not really, all the Worldâs problems are caused by Muslims you know, or maybe you donât?
Oh! I didnât know that Scottish Power was run by Muslims, where did you read that mate?
Silly asking your energy company that question.
You should look at the real authorities.
Smart Meters ARE DEFINITELY NOT COMPULSORY
âSmart meters are not compulsory; itâs entirely your choice. The government requires energy suppliers to offer smart meters to all homes and small businesses across Great Britain by 2020, but whether you accept them is completely up to you.â
and this is confirmed here by Ofgem:
"While we and the government think that all consumers will benefit from smart meters, they arenât compulsory and you can choose not to have one.
Choosing not to have a smart meter may mean you donât have access to all the available tariffs on the market, some of which could be cheaper.
If you donât want to have a smart meter now, you will still be able to have one installed for free at a later date."
and more confirmation here from NPOWER:
https://www.npower.com/blog/2018/08/29/are-smart-meters-compulsory/
"are Smart meters compulsory?
The simple answer is no.
There may be some companies who make it seem like every household in the UK must have a Smart meter installed.
While that may be the Governmentâs aim, the fact of the matter is you can refuse the installation if youâre firmly against it."
Absolutely no question about it then. No-one, but no-one has to have a Smart Meter and imho everyone should steadfastly refuse to have one.
Thereâs an article here about a Daily Mail campaign against energy company bully boy tactics.
They are taking over everything, I read it on here every day.
Thanks for that Realist, it did confirm what I already thought and there was no mention that any of the energy companies are run by Muslims which is claimed by Purwell
Really? You donât like Muslims then? I mean claiming that the Muslims run our energy companies and are forcing smart meters on the white folk is a bit OTT even for you mate
You were away they did irony werenât you? Donât twist my posts to suit your agenda.
Agenda? Not with you mate I was talking about the tactics used by a Scottish Power agent and you started claiming they were Muslims. It a bit odd but I bow to your superior knowledge on this subject.
This is the sort of entertaining interaction I really enjoy!
Did I mention that I like sarcasm?
I have missed the cut and thrust of this forum but to come back and get involved with an a poster claiming that Scottish Power and other energy suppliers is now being run by Islamics in order to force people to get smart meters is really strange:shock:
What the hell has been going on during my absence?
Scottish Power are muslims?
I wasnât aware of that. Is it really true?
I used to be with Scottish Power and, now P. has mentioned it, I seem to remember that when I last emailed them I got a reply from someone with an Asian-sounding name.
Itâs really odd, I remember when he was a rabid socialist and now he seems to have really gone off the rails, maybe this topic about smart meters should be moved to the conspiracy thread?
Itâs kind of sad and disturbing to see someone lose it like this.
Personally I donât know what the fuss is about if you have the standard non smart meter then you are paying a bill which covers the peak and off peak tariffs. If you have a smart meter then you will be able to minimise your bill (if you want to) by ensuring that you use most power at the minimum cost periods - Like turning on your dishwasher, clothes dryer, washing machine etc when you go to bed. With an effective market regulator you should be better off and there is evidence that this is the case.
The biggest danger with smart meters is that the provider will start charging for âapparentâ power rather than actual power which would increase your bill considerably - their argument will probably be something along the lines of âWe have to provide wires to carry the higher currentâ
The difference between real and apparent power is that in AC main power the current and voltage are not always in phase because of inductive or capacitive load and this phase difference has to be used to calculate the real power consumed.
Apparent power is basically just Power = Amps x Volts (as in DC)
