UK did it for a few years. I liked it.
Most years lately in the US, part of the US congress puts out a bill to stop the daylight saving time switch. Every year, the bill gets stuck in some part of congress. This year, the bill got stuck in the House.
At least it got through the Senate this year, so maybe one day. . .
As others have said, we changed our clocks on the 14th. I was tired for a week. I wish they would make it stop.
U.S. House stops the clock on making daylight saving time permanent
Good news! This has been voted on, and decided no more changes! About time, too! It will go back to standard time on November 6th, and then from 2023, stay the same.
That would be great, RightNow, but I canât find any confirmation of that. As of 2 hours ago, the media is reporting the Bill is still stuck in the House. The Senate passed the bill. That might have been what you read. That announcement made it seem like the Bill passed. If I missed something, could you link it please? Iâd love to hear that news.
As of 2 hours ago,
House not likely to quickly pass permanent daylight saving time, report says
The Senate unanimously passed a move to permanent daylight saving time last week. The House appears to be taking time to review the plan
It should pass , Bratti. Below is what I was referring toâŠ
Many lawmakers want just the opposite: On March 15, 2022, the Senate approved legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent in the U.S. starting in 2023 . The bill, known as the Sunshine Protection Act, now heads to the House, where passage would send the legislation to President Joe Bidenâs desk.
Thanks! Hopefully, it will pass. It got to the House after the Senate passed it last week. Itâs stuck there now.
It is a tradition, JBR, and havenât we already lost enough of those?
I agree it is totally unnecessary.
An interesting factoid about time. Spain is in the wrong time zone. Spain is far enough west to be classed as GMT (like Portugal is - cross from Spain to Portugal and you arrive in Portugal before you left Spain). During WWII General Franco decided to move the countryâs clocks forward an hour to fall in line with CET, as a show of support to Hitler. After the war, and Francoâs death in 1975, nobody remembered to put the clocks right, and thus Spain is technically in the wrong time zone.
A very sensible move. They say that where America goes, Britain follows. I hope so.
I fervently hope this is not the case, America is such a weird place.
Thatâs interesting. I didnât know that.
Surely, France is also in the wrong time zone. As they are directly south of us, shouldnât they be in the same time zone as us?
Oh, but hang on⊠!
Yep and Algeria, Morocco etc.
Too simplistic. Since those countries are further south, they will be moving faster as they spin round the globe and thereâs a space time relationship according to relativityâŠlol
Yes, but isnât that something to do with the EU - âEuropean Unityâ, and what about Ireland?
I bet Brussels isnât too happy with Portugal.
When is Brussels happy about anything apart from awarding themselves yet more expenses?
The EU is never far from your mind, is it, JBR?
Glad you reminded me, thanks. Itâs a sign summer is comingâŠ
Wouldnât it make a lot more sense if the whole of Europe was on the same time even if it means we Brits have to put our clocks on an extra hour?
