Does the town you grew up in ever make the National News?

My home town has made the National News several times, not for good reasons though.
There is a copper mine there which had huge lay offs in the 70’s to keep it viable.
The mine closed in 1994 and reopened in 1996 under new ownership.
The mine was the only major employer in the town so people started to move away. Businesses suffered and many closed down.
Three deaths at the mine inside three weeks saw the mine close again in 2014.
It is yet to reopen, if it ever will.

London? Oh yes, I’m sure it makes the national news quite often, and international.

Hi

Yes, the home of Charles Darwin, huge flooding of the historic town and latterly much worse.

Horrific gang murders in residential areas by gangs from the West Midlands
Targetting delivery drivers working in the Town.

My home town is famous for many things and all, at some point, featured in the national news.
The town where deep fried Mars bars were first sold.
Birth place of Lord Reith, original director-general of the BBC.
Where the world’s oldest fossil of a land dwelling animal was discovered.
The site of the 2020 fatal train derailment.
Home of the famous hogmanay fire balls.
I could go on…

I was born during WWII in Notting Hill London and I was raised there during my early years. Unfortunately, NH is frequently in the news for all the wrong reasons.

NH is popular with popstars and actors, or do you mean the black element, the carnival and associated controversies. And just down the road, Notting Dale’s towering inferno.

Yes, quite often. It’s the traditional home of the British Army. It gets royal visits that are mentioned on the News.

Farnborough Airfield is just down the road. It was famous for the Airshow and always got national News coverage …but there is no Airshow now. Now a private Airfield and a place for aviation related business deals. Aircraft of all kinds fly in every two years for the business event. News coverage when the time comes.
