Of course we do we pay for the service and should get decent caring people who know what they are doing, especially NHS staff they can mean the difference to a life worth living or hell for their patients !
Your post made be cringe MickB…:-(…these incidents are shocking and sometimes hard to comprehend but undoubtedly happen.
I am pleased to hear that your son is improving and receiving the care he needs and deserves.
I hate going to the doctors. I recently went with a painful wrist and the new young doctor kept consulting Google about my problem… In the end he sent me off with ibuprofen… I’m very unhappy about this & now have to go through it all again by consulting a more senior partner in the hope they will find out what’s wrong…
I have a similar story, Carol. I consulted the doc a few years ago with a painful knee - his response - he never even glanced at my knee, never mind examining it. He directed me to a website where I would find knee exercises.
Since then I have had to pay out to consult a private physiotherapist, an osteopath, a podiatrist in an attempt to resolve the problem.
And to make things worse we are made to feel guilty if we complain, yet we pay their wages, if a Tradesman gave such poor service we would not hesitate to let them know.
But then one runs the risk of being struck off your doctor’s list. Can’t win.
Oh I am going to let them know alright. I’m making my next appointment with the senior partner and will tell her in detail about the young Dr and his Googling … I don’t know whether to be mad or sad!!
Good for you, Carol! Don’t forget to let us know how it goes!
Had to change to a local ‘‘conveyor belt’’ surgery…
You get 10 mins…no more…
My ‘‘doctor’’ has never examined me…he sits and listens…and then prescribes me medicine that fit in with my description…
Self-diagnosis??
Yes let them know carol…you have every right to complain.
Complaining about your GP is not a valid reason to be struck off.
As a patient you have rights.
It will probably take 2 weeks or more to get an appointment with the senior partner - but yes I’ll let you know how I get on! :confused2:
I hope I can trust them as I work alongside them on a daily basis.
I will say that, like the rest of us, they all have different personalities. Some of their bedside manners leave a lot to be desired. Others have lovely personalities and the patients really warm to them.
From a g.p.point of view, I generally find that if I phone my surgery at 8.30 am then I’ll get an appointment that day. Getting an appointment with your favourite g.p. is practically impossible if it’s important.
I’ve a view that the surgeries are hogged by the same people, thus preventing the rest of us from getting appointments. Maybe this is where the £10 consultation fee would change things. Although I’d hate it to effect young families who need to watch every penny. I’m talking about the older generation who often go to the g.p. for a blether.
Well said alice.
It’s really really nice if you like your doctor. But also working alongside of them on a daily basis I have found that personality has really nothing to do with their skills. Some of the meanest and nastiest docs I have met are exactly the ones I personally would want on my medical team. Some of the friendliest and nicest are dolts IMO. Ideally one would want both, but if had to pick one or the other, I’d pick the one that knew what he was doing…over the winner of the popularity contest
Thank for all the good wishes you expressed about my son. He came home yesterday but is still unwell and on lots of medication. The Doctors say it will take him up to six months to get 100% back to normal and he will be unable to work for most of that time. But, as I said, the good thing is that he is now safe with us back at home - such an amazing relief!
That is good news MickB…all the best to your son on his road to recovery .
That is indeed good news Mick, such a relief for you all.
Every good wish to your son for a good recovery.
Yes, some of them have a personality of a stick. You want someone who is caring and friendly and will listen. Sadly some of them lack those qualities.
Mick, all the best to your son.
Oh WOW!!! matey, that’s excellent news - now all he needs is several doses of Brandy (for medicinal purposes you understand) ;-);-)
