Next time you are talc buying in Tesco, try their F&F baby talc range. The night option is rather pleasant and you get a large 400g pot for £1.50
Thanks LongDriver, I’ll put it on my shopping list for tomorrow…
My mother made me a Johnstons Baby, still am today.
Annie, Yes, l remember the link with cancer was in the news.
I am not keen on the smell of Johnson’s baby powder. The only time l see and smell it now is when l go to Northern Soul nights where the male dancers sprinkle it on the floor to dance on!!
I remember the lovely smell of a talcum powder l used to put on my baby dolls when l was about 10. I think it was Cuticura?
Then my sisters and l started to use use Avon talcum powder after a bath. They were highly scented and we had to give up using them as we all got itchy and irritated somewhere… you know…
Bet you don’t ,it’s highly scented .
I like to smell nice Zuleika…
I used to love those scented talcs too, especially the classic ones from back in the day. You’re right though, they’ve basically vanished from shelves.
A big reason for that is the legal trouble around talcum powder and health concerns. There have been a bunch of lawsuits linking talc to serious issues, especially when it’s been used long-term. If you’re curious or still using it, might be worth reading up on it, this page breaks down the situation clearly.
Kinda wild how something so common turned into such a big deal.
I still use Talc, and have used it all of my life with no known ill effects.
At seventy four with heart trouble, I doubt mesothelioma will get me first…
Talc is no longer retailed in the UK due to court cases. All that is available now is Body Powder which is based on corn starch,
No, I don’t use talc since it can cause cancer.
erm…what
I used to like talc back in the talc days when I wore boxers under my 501’s.
I still wear boxers under my 501’s!
Minus the imperial leather talc I hasten to add.
Yes, all my life. I know there was a lot of blaming with Johnsons Baby Powder over cancer but I never knew of anyone here being affected. I wouldn’t be without it, especially when I come out of the pool.
Neither do I Rox
I think the Americans just love litigation, and now it’s over here big style.
I much prefer talc (or whatever it is these days) I think it’s much more healthy than bunging up your sweat glands with anti-perspirants.
Yes I do use it, mainly on toes to ensure they’re dry.
Where cancer is concerned, I consider talc a lot less harmful than 5G…
I thought the problem was that talc was mined in areas where there was asbestos - it’s the asbestos that is not good for you
Well it’s on my shed roof Bruce, and it’s never done me any harm…
Asbestos I mean, not talc…
When it is bonded in cement it’s fine as long as undamaged. My house has heaps as does every Australian house built before 1983, kitchen, bedrooms etc. Just don’t drill it.
BUT asbestos is deadly and causes terrible diseases like Mesothelioma. One exposure and 20 years later you’re gone (that’s why they employ old men to remove asbestos)
