we were so so poor we used to float bits of wood into puddles in the road. On a good day with a bit of wind we used to see whose would get from one side of the puddle to the other first .
I remember those, they were brill, you used to get little rolls of caps and you could smell the gun powder
I remember doing the ankle ball so long and so fast it took all the skin off my ankle in a giant blister! Looked like Iâd been chained up!
Do you remember when Superballs came out, hard plastic balls that bounced really high?
I didnât have a proper one but did get some of the little ones that you used to get in those coin machines, like bubble gum machines. They got lost and bounced away really easily though, playing with them in the streets
And another jumble sale buy, Floral Garden, you had to âplantâ the plastic flowers in the holes in the flower beds with the metal fork thing, then you could pop them out again and redesign. I loved that
This stuff was good fun
I know it says non toxic on the box but Iâm not sure it would comply with todayâs health and safety standards.
You could get Glow-Globs too.
Spooky enjoyment!
Thanks. I forgot about those. That brought back fond memories. The spinning tops were a favourite.
Those Superballs bounced with a vengeanceâŠif you gave one some welly in a small room youâd best beware
Clackers⊠Broke my wrist
Mine actually didnât look like the above. It didnât rip my skin off or I wouldnât have liked it. Iâm not sure what was different about mine but I played with it often with no negative consequences.
The slinky was fun
Gumby & Pokey
I wasnât allowed clackers, there were stories published in the media about kids losing eyes due to the resin shattering and splintering.
Meccano!
Lego!
ArtMaster (paint by numbers)!
Bayko?
You really broke your wrist?
Yes, I did⊠They were lethal
Broke my heart that I wasnât allowed any
Time heals all.
We werenât allowed those or an type of caps or BB guns
Mine was a home made one dad knocked up with some electrical wire and a tennis ball! But it wasnât his fault, I had a bet with my brother I could do a thousand âŠâŠ
I always wanted an Etch a Sketch, my cousin had one and I loved having a go
We lived in a flat so no slinky
On drawing, do you remember these magic drawing pads, they were fun but eventually the paper always tore.
Magic painting books where you just used water and it made colours were good too
A homemade one with wire is sure to hurt but your stubborn persistence won the race. I can relate to being too stubborn for my own good. That I had in spades and probably still do.
The Etcha- Sketch was very cool. My best friend had one so it was on my Christmas list.
Those books that you can just add water and the right colour would suddenly appear was very cool
When I was very small I had a metal butterfly. It had very pretty colours. You pushed it along the ground by itâs handle & it clapped itâs wings together making a very loud noise. A bit like giving a child a drum but much louder. Always did wonder what happened to it.
