If you play an instrument do you record songs and if so, what equipment do you use? I remember using a Grundig reel to reel back in the early 1970s but now I use a 32 track portable studio. It’s does not link to a computer screen. Instead it has actual physical knobs, buttons, switches and faders, much like the sort of desk you’d see in a recording studio ten years ago but on a smaller scale. Lately everyone seems to use DAW which means the controls are all virtual on a computer screen. I have resisted making the change because I love all the old school equipment on my physical multitrack recorder. It’s harder to mix down on there but I believe I get better sound quality. I would love to hear what set-up others use.
I dabbled when I was younger @Rane, I built a small recording studio in my bedroom!
I had a 16:8:2 Spirit Soundcraft Mixer and a few other bits (Akai sampler, Emu Orbit, etc). Have you uploaded any videos or recordings anywhere? Post them if you have ![]()
Sounds like you were into it quite seriously. Do you have any tunes online @Azz ? Here is my latest recording of one of my songs, recorded a few days before Christmas…
My Husband had a Grundig reel to reel when we married in the early 1970s , I dont recall what he had on it, He was a Road Manager for a group , perhaps it was used for that .
It was sold at a Pawn shop when a bill needed paying .I remember it was large and silver.
Many, many moons ago I have a tentative go at this. I used to play my guitar through an EQ pedal to match impedance to my PC’s soundcard along with either a click or backing track/MIDI file and record everything together. I worked well enough for practice, but was miles away from any ‘performance’ standard.
They may be on some old hard drive I kept from years ago, but there’s a good chance I may have deleted them. They weren’t worth listening to.

No it was plainer than that with push down buttons.
Love it @Rane, so catchy! ![]()
I don’t have any online unfortunately, I never got around to finishing any - I was never quite happy enough with them, so usually moved on to my next track before the last was finished ![]()
I’m guessing you put the artwork together Rane? I like it, it really does come across as a cover if that makes sense ![]()
@Chilliboot Yes I design all the covers. Usually I purchase the basic picture from istock and then write the title on it. It has to look striking when it’s a small thumbnail on Spotify. I like bright colours.
Pretty cool vocals.
I play alto and soprano saxophone and have recorded some stuff on Smule. I sing also so theres more of that than instrumental
This is my alto and the silver one is my soprano
Thank you. ![]()
No chance of me playing any musical instrument, I would not be able to tell if I was in tune or not. Witnessed by many with my singing.
