I some times wonder if when you go to all the trouble of finding/buying the home of your choice and then decide to do it up only tobe told Oh no you have to ask for permission to paint the outside/
Or plant a hedge/Tree etc,
Our second home buy was a cottage a mile from the road up a track & at the foot of a mountain,
Our nearest neighbour was again a mile across open land, You could see the cottage from the main road and the views we’re just fantastic, when using the Loo you could see Bala Lake some 7 miles away,
Now on the main road you’d pass a cottage on it’s own and doing no one any harm, The new owners painted this cottage a light pink, and the planning dept told then as they’d not applied for permission it had to go back to being white,
Do not make the mistake of thinking because you’ve saved an old place from falling to bits you can do what you like because you can’t,
If there are any restrictions/covenants on properties sold in England, all have to be listed in the legal documents before the sale. I have one on this house in that any extension cannot be higher than the exiting ridge of this house, which is the usual standard for extensions.
When I built a side flank extn to 3 bed semi detached house I had to get planning permission. when that was passed every stage of the build had to be inspected by a planning officer. That was from digging out for foundations being the correct size and depth. then the actual build up to window level and on to roof inspction or joist fixings etc. Finally the completed construction.
OH and by the way I did it all myself, no hired contractors or anything apart from the final roof covering being sealed and tarmaced. Size of extn 18ft x 8ft
Well, that is strange that you need permission for painting your house!
Over here, we only need permission and a very expensive license if we want to build any extensions. A few years ago, my husband painted our house a lovely shade of yellow. I chose the colour. Our house is detached, like all the other ones n this area of the countryside. We are not completely isolated, a house across the road, a few on the left down the road and also on the right. Everyone has painted their houses different colours from everyone else.
We can plant as many trees and plants as we like as long as they are at a certain distance from the neighbor’s property.
