Hopefully I’ll never have to walk through snow and on ice again.I think that may answer your question. :grinning:

My feelings exactly.

Mind you I also think that night time temperatures below 10° should be outlawed too.

I like it between mid 80’s F. and Low 50’s / high 40’sF.
The great days are winds below 6mph, they are in the
lesser part of weather though but usually from the south.

It’s great doing Summer activities in Winter with a big coat on, then, when one gets too hot, one can take the coat off, one can’t do that in the Summer.

For most, in most countries, the premise of this question is flawed. Winter is rarely snow and ice. So the list of winter activities would be more:
Cross country running in the rain, walking across cold muddy fields, getting cold cutting back trees and bushes in the garden, standing in the drizzle fishing, digging over the veg plot.
And lastly, paying a fortune to go skiing for one week.
Makes the decision between winter and summer a bit easier.

Actually that is not necessarily the case, winters here tend to be drier than summer (dry season in the north). This winter was wetter than normal and the ground did get saturated on a couple of occasions but it dries pretty quickly and with in a few days you are back praying for rain.

In September for example the ground did get saturated but it actually only rained on about 4 or 5 days in total. When it rains it really rains we don’t get day after day of drizzle.

There are a few places that have flooded, some that have flooded twice this year in summer and winter but generally speaking mud and cold are not generally a daytime problem certainly not where I live. Let’s face it people here don’t go out if it rains.

Also it only gets close to freezing about once a decade.

I always preferred the spring and summer months for Walking and Cycling no need to wear heavy clothing or boots .
Lighter evenings too were a bonus to stay out longer and seeing more wildlife in the countryside .

This time of year Sept/Oct in southern England suits me.

Same for SW France. Its 24 deg outside right now, been sunny all week and will be all next week. But nice and cool in the evening.
Plus most of the tourists have left so its back to fewer queues, less manic markets, more tractors than camper vans on the road.

Lisbon

It could be a little warmer, but we are well into October.

I should be in Lisbon really.

Given the weather option, yes, Lisbon looks better. But I’m getting more sunshine!

Makes me smile that when I was a kid growing up outside Aberdeen these temperatures were rare even in July and August.

Yes, I live near Aberdeen and those are the temperatures you expect in mid summer.

I remember turning the corner into the face of Stonehaven harbour in February to face the full force of the wind from the east. It literally went right through your coat, your jumper, your shirt and then your body. Pigging freezing. Luckily it was a short dash to the warmth of the Marine Bar.

A wee dram cures that.
