Do you like ELO?

They had their genesis in 1970.
They sold over 50 million records worldwide, collecting 19 CRIA, 21 RIAA, and 38 BPI awards. They were known in the US, as “the English guys with the big fiddles”. From 1972 to 1986, ELO accumulated twenty Top 20 songs on the UK Singles Chart, and fifteen Top 20 songs on the US Billboard Hot 100. The band also holds the record for having the most Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits (20) without a number one single of any band in US chart history. ELO was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

A big YES from me.
I saw them years ago when they were all men.
More recently they’ve got some pretty girls in the band.
I think Jeff Lynne has just finished his farewell tour.

Could not stand Jeff Lynne nor ELO.

However I do have a guilty secret - I have a record from the late 70s called War of the Worlds somewhere (think HG Wells), a record I liked very much, I used to think that Jeff Lynne wrote the music and it was only comparatively recently discovered that it was written by Jeff Wayne. Such a relief!

A big ELO fan…used to buy all their albums.
Roy Wood left because the other band members didn’t want to go the route he did with Wizzard.
Sadly Jeff Lynne never brought his final version of the band to Wales.

I have just checked & we cannot find your violin. However we did find a Harmonium among his Penguin Cafe Orchestra items.

War of the Worlds
Brilliant CD & my late husband loved it & listened to it all the time. He would have loved to go to the live stage show, but he passed before it was written.

@Bretrick ELO is one of of my favourite gatherings of all time.
My mixed blood contains some from Highland Celts and as a previous player of the pipes, The Highland version Maid of Orleans really hits the spot for me.
The pipes can only produce nine notes, but with the chanter’s twin reeds combined with two tenor drone pipes and a bass drone pipe, the sounds produced always thrills me without exception.

I am also inflicted with ASMR and as such music is my go-to for unwinding :+1:

Rummaging around on YouTube it hits you just how thin and skinny everyone was back in those days.

Jasper Carrott shares the hilarious and unexpected story behind his 1975 hit “Funky Moped”—a comedy single that stormed the UK charts with a little help from rock royalty.

Produced by none other than Jeff Lynne (of ELO fame), the track features Bev Bevan on drums and a member of Wizard on bass. Jasper dives into how this unlikely collaboration came to be.

Brilliant!
It had the gatefold cover with the beautifully illustrated booklet within.
I still listen to it, although not on vinyl!

I think it was Roy that convinced Jeff that violins and guitars would be good. :grinning:
