Do you know the difference between an Executor and an Executrix?

I find this really strange.
An Executor is a person or institution appointed by a testator to carry out the terms of their will.

Surely that encompasses females?

An Executrix is a female appointed to carry out the terms of a will.

No, but I know what excruciating is :icon_wink:

sounds a bit like an actor (encompasses females)

and an actress (females only)

I think the word “Executrix” is regarded as an historic term nowadays and hasn’t been used in legal documents for years.
The legal profession probably eventually realised it was daft to have two different words for people who perform exactly the same function!

Like most of those nouns describing an occupation which had a different suffix tacked on to it if a woman was doing the work, the “feminine suffix” has been dropped now.
Most of them sounded rather cumbersome, anyway.

Have you ever seen a Museum refer to a female Curator as a Curatrix?

I’ve heard of Bellatrix Lestrange.
Bellatrix is also the brightest star in Orion’s Belt.
Just thought I’d mention it

After a lifetime of doing it, I find it difficult not to call an actress an actress.

Executrix - Looking at it quickly, I thought it was a make of washing machine.

Yes, there’s some occupations which I find difficult to break the habit of using the feminine form of -
Waitress is one -
Another one is Headmistress

Some old habits die hard

I still like to refer to myself as a ‘Postman’ and a lady as a ‘Postwoman’
Postperson is just silly and gets a red squiggly line under it when I write it in my reply

My nephew refers to himself as a Postie -
I think that’s how Royal Mail describe their postal delivery staff too.

I think it has a much friendlier sound than “Postman” or “Postwoman”

I think you’ll find it’s non identifiable , gender neutral, letter delivery individual
