It makes no difference to me whether it’s day or night, if it’s something I want to go to then I go.
All the buses and trains seem busy so I don’t feel isolated. And the streets here are all well lit.
We do not have any buses here in Montalembert or street lighting…we do have a very calm environment though and can walk about at any time of the night without any fears whosoever…
I could never go back to anything else …
I only go out in the evening if it`s a family occasion, twice this year up to now.
Always home before 11pm.
Not since I stopped playing darts with our local darts team. We had a league & did rather well in competitions.
If I go out at all in the evening it’s to the theatre, but haven’t seen a live show for years now. Last I saw was Wicked.
The only time we go out in the evening is when on holiday, somewhere warm with nice food and cheap drinks. At home we just go out for lunch once or twice a week.
I think people don’t go out as much at night when they get older, and there are several reasons for that - health being one reason, location another, or maybe just feeling more comfortable at home, or they see night socialising as a ‘young persons’ thing.
Here in my part of the world, some nights are ‘quieter’ than others. Although not a big town, weekends can be very, very busy, and if you just fancy a quiet drink somewhere, better to avoid this time completely, and stick to Monday to Thursday night only.
Cinema’s and theatres provide matinee performance times, for those who prefer it,so no need to go at night if you don’t want to. There are also two taxi ranks here with licenced, well established taxi companys, waiting to take you home, so no need to drive.
We do see anti-social behaviour here at night (and day) almost always drug related, and they are usually in small groups, who tend to fight among themselves, until the police turn up to move them on.
Most towns have similar ‘social’ problems these days.
Growing up we had a rule in the house that everyone was home before dark. That’s become a sort of unwritten rule to me. Going out at night is not a regular event.
Yes we do, usually we have dinner out on Saturday Nights in Scrabster, followed by a meet up with friends in our village local. I only drink soft drinks so I can drive legally. In the light evenings we drive to Dunnet Beach a couple of times a week to let the Clydes have a run on the beach, but Himself drives then as I don’t like pulling the horse box.
If there is a social event in the area, of course I will go, and drive if I am with women. I feel I am the safer driver of all of my friends!
Also, if I am invited out to dinner or an event with a gentleman, he will drive, and also only have a single alcoholic beverage during the evening, unless it is a four hour or longer evening. My social activities seem to bring me home around 9 pm or so, and then if I invite them in for a drink, it’s on them to watch the intake. I would never encourage more than a drink or two, until midnight.
Seems now that spring has arrived, there are many more outdoor patios open at establishments to encourage more socializing.
It’s a shame people don’t go out at night more because busy streets are safer.
Before the days when people drove everywhere streets would be busy at night with people going to cinemas, pubs, visiting etc
I’m a night and day owl, depending on what’s happening. Life’s too short for restrictions. I’m making the most of every minute, especially as I get older.
Never go out in the evening. If we go out for a meal we book for around 5pm . I’m happy to drive so generally home for around 7pm .
I’m not a night owl at all but I am an early bird . Usually up around 5am and out walking with my dogs .
Streets still are busy at night with those things - although some posters may not do so, there plenty of people of all ages who do go out at night.
Amsterdam is the place for that. The last time I was there anyway, all ages mixing together too.
Nah, 6.00pm is well late enough to put the brain onto “Standby”
Very dependent on where you live.
Usually late into the small hours with locals at dinner parties. Go to restaurants via cab a few times a year. Always boozy, all of us. We all like the other worldlyness of being tipsy, the deep and mad conversations.
Don’t enjoy going to London, always can’t wait to be back in the country.
You don’t enjoy London?
Where in particular, the City , the West End, the 32 London boroughs stretching out to Herts, Essex, Kent, Surrey?
London covers an enormous area and is a collection of hundreds of villages.
By London I don’t mean the surrounding counties.
I don’t like anything about it, to include train journeys, the noise and dirt. There’s nothing amazing there, theatre is for me totally fake n dull, restaurants are fine but certainly not worth travelling for.
We were wandering around restaurants and bars recently and I just thought well is this it, bored now.
I’m just at home in countryside and small towns, content, me, happy, at ease. I honestly find a small town Indian restaurant absolutely thrilling.
Similarly my ideal holiday is a small town on a distant Greek island, I find big cities mostly very dull and sorta impersonal. Florence was like a pastiche tourist trap. Singapore was pretty boring. A cruise ship would be my worst nightmare.
Ah, so you’re talking about the West End, which is primarily for tourists like Paris, Rome and New York and not the London that has 32 boroughs which differ in character but include fabulous parks, beautiful rivers and numerous historic attractions and a great transport network which is sadly lacking in the country.
