Do you follow your gut instinct often?

Do you follow your intuition often?

How can you tell it’s not just fear talking?

I would say i do 90% of the time ,if i get that tight feeling in my stomach, theres a reason.
Isn`t our gut classed as our second brain?.

I tend to follow my intuition, as an engineer’s mind tends to subconsciously use critical path analysis before deciding on a course of action. I’m usually spot on :+1:

I’m am electrical engineer and a pragmatist. Gut feeling is not the way to go in such circumstance.

I’m not sure if I have a gut feeling at all. I never get any noticeable signals from there. I tend to think that my judgement and decisions are based on processes located in my brain. I also doubt that I could differentiate between signals based on instinct and those considered purely rational ones. I wonder how those people who can, manage to do that?

I think humans have evolved with a gut instinct and it’s helped keep us alive for thousands of years. It’s probably one of those things I’d class as ‘ahead of science’ (they just haven’t figured it out yet).

So yeah, I do feel we have an intrinsic instinct that forms part of our ability to navigate through life, but I also think much of it has been hampered due to foods people are fed - for instance, gluten (found in bread, pasta etc) is a known neurotransmitter blocker and if fed in the formative years can have a lasting negative effect. The Romans knew exactly what they were doing when they said give people bread and circus (to keep them subjugated).

Since I don’t eat gluten, and do my best to avoid all other additives (impossible for most of us to do completely, since they inject cattle with ABs, steroids, hormones, or grow plants with all sorts of harmful fertilisers etc) I tend to follow my gut as much as I can.

I usually weigh up all the prons and cons … try to employ good sense and rational … and then invariably go with my gut instinct.

It doesn’t always work out but I find I can live with my mistakes easier if I have been true to myself.

I tend to avoid stuff where the gut has to be enacted, it has a finite resource and needs some power for the end game.

I try to think things through rationally - sometimes I even draw up a list of pros and cons if I have to make a major important decision - sometimes, though, my gut feeling says something different to my rational list, so I go with my gut.

I do think that animals (and that includes humans) pick up subconscious signals and cues about people or situations, especially about things that may prove a danger to us - so if I start to feel wary about someone or something even though there’s no rational explanation, I take notice of my instinctive gut feeling.
It has been proved right in the past.

My gut suggested (not digested) that.

Last time I had a gut feeling was not long after eating a bad curry.

Yes I follow my gut feeling , I think it is a natural protective feeling . When meeting people I can feel if their intention is good or not . When buying a home I’ve felt instantly that it was right for me . This home I’ve lived in for 20 years I stepped into the hallway and just knew it was for me. Gut instinct

I’m suspect of gut instinct…its often wrong but people stand by it. I take my time making decisions about people and situations often my first impression/gut instinct was correct but not always.

I follow mine all the time, probably too much, I’m not very rational

But often I just ‘feel’ if there’s something right or wrong with a decision, situation or person and act the way that feeling tells me to, even if it’s not logical or sensible

I don’t think it’s fear. I’m not a very fearful person and anyway, sometimes it’s the opposite and it makes me take the less ‘safe’ option

Usually it pays off, sometimes I get it really wrong :fearful:

Ruddy inner voices have a lot to answer for -

mine told me I looked great dancing at that wedding last the weekend in my nice pink dress but the photos showed I looked a lot like Mr Blobby……
