In my TV apprentice years I came back from lunch and all the engineers an aerial riggers were standing around a TV watching something I can’t recall. They said to have a look. I did and exclaimed, “**** me yes!” They all went quiet. Then I noticed a receptionist sitting on a chair surrounded by everyone. She said that she didn’t think I’d ever use words like that! Yes I did back then but swearing was definitely not something done when women were around. Apologies and a red face.
Now I sometimes hear younger women swearing in public, often at their children.
