Read my horoscope this morning – apparently I am going to be hosting a “casual get together” at home and will be meeting someone who will “shift your path in a delightful and promising direction”. I have no plans to “host” a get together at my house, in fact the chances of me even seeing anyone today is very remote. Does anyone actually believe horoscopes? How can all the people born at a certain time of the year all have the same experience on a particular day?
Absolutely not!
Signs of the zodiac which supposedly resemble fish etc would look entirely different viewed from another perspective. Just a line of sight thing surely?
No. Sorry. I really can’t believe in this. I tend to reason the logic behind this and ask how an alignment of balls of hydrogen millions of light years away and using a line of perspective, going to know that favourite colour is green, my lucky number is 7 and “I’m going to get some interesting news today”…and some such nonsense.
But what I find curious to those who ardently believe in this stuff, is how they conveniently ignore some fundamental mistakes involved in astrology;
1.There are 13 signs of the zodiac, not 12. The missing sign is Ophiuchus.
2. The Earth rotates in a circular motion around its axis, called Precession. That means I supposed to be a Gemini, but the sun actually rises in Taurus and will slip further back and repeat every 26,000 years.
3. They make no mention of Eris, Haumea or Makemake, dwarf planets about the same size as Pluto. So how come these don’t have any “influence”?
Whilst some people may look at this as harmless amusement, to others its a scam to pull in the gullible and susceptible.
I don’t read my horoscope - in fact I can’t remember the last time I did read it, probably when I was a teenager and wanted to believe in such things.
Touch wood…I’m not superstitious
Pah. child’s play.
Not necessarily Believe.

With so called Readings and predictions now digitally commercialised.
The Reading element, is more analytical of that revealed in digital communication Than a talent in Astrology.

I studied it for 10 or 15 years … do I think there is anything in it?
Yes, actually I do. But it’s not a science and many do mix it up with astronomy so tend to confuse the two.
Horoscopes trashed out in newspapers are just that … trash. Based on sunsign astrology (with no specific birth time or location) and really, it’s pretty unbelievable that a twelfth of the population are going to share the same experiences for one day.
There are only 12 officially recognised signs of the Zodiac … the constellation of Ophiuchus whilst it does exist just isn’t on it.
Precession of the Equinoxes and a complete rotation and polar shift, hence the Age of Aquarius etc , is an astronmical fact but the two branches of astrology and astronomy split centuries ago though before that were treated as one which is why many great aastronomers such as Tycho Brahe the 16th century Danish court astronomer was also an astrologer and cast horoscopes as part of his royal duties. Copernicus studied both and Galileo practised both. And Kepler believed in it.
Eastern astrologers use the constellations for their charts and can be incredibly fatalistic , whilst Western astrolgers use the Sun, two differing systems based on the division of space in the sky … Precession is why the Pole Star is no longer aligned with the pyramids, as it was when built. .
As to planets. That’s a tricky one. The fairly recently discovered Chiron was classed aa a planet though some astrologers still say it is a comet and then there’s Pluto, discovered in 1930 it took decades to be incorporated into astrological symbolism and now some astronomers it is not classed as a planet anymore but just a dwarf planet of no significance. I tend to still include it.
A scam to fool the guillible? I don’t think so but anyone trying to run their life by it could be disappointed. It is what it is, more a snapshot of a person and their potential than a predictive tool
When I , briefly , had an astrological business I was rather surprised just how many people wouldn’t make a decision without referring to it, especially Germans.
So, yes … some people can get an unhealthy fixation about it.
Crikey … look at the length of this!
I don’t, for I can’t see what those predictions are based on. What’s more, I’m not interested in any forecasts. Horoscopes are not for me.
I didn’t know we still had horoscopes, but back in the day did anyone notice The Sun was more saucy than The Times. Meaning, we are as saucy as the paper we read.
Interesting replies - personally I don’t believe anyone can foretell the future and I don’t think the planets affect someones personality. I am a Pisces and am quite shy and introverted - a friend born just a couple of days before me is outgoing, life and soul of the party type!
