It harkens back to the 16th century when teachers wages were so low, students families would give apples so that was one less thing they needed to buy.
Or maybe it is because apples are supposedly the fruit of knowledge so an apt “gift”
Or maybe apples were a bribe - to engender the teachers good graces
Do you know if this still occurs?
Only in food banks!
I think if a child/teen gave an apple to their teacher they would have the pee took out of them these days.
I don’t think apples, but small gifts to teachers at Christmas and end of year seem to happen in primary schools, it’s almost mandatory!
Same principle, I suppose, a thank you, maybe currying favour?
I’m not sure it should be allowed really, though, it’s tough on struggling families who can’t afford to join in
Probably get knifed
Not the nicest school maybe ? That said, I don’t teachers at our school were not the most friendly bunch. You were there to learn, not socialise with them.
Absolutely … believe it or not I enjoy working with young people when I have the opportunity .
Your probably right Chilliboot, but children today have the answer for everything,so the knife would be to peel the apple.
I had some right vile teachers and some wonderful ones too.
I loved working with children,i did voluntary work in the school my sons attended for over 10 years,i left because some parents were vile to say the least.
Similar for me. I usually had a few here from school, mine included, mostly for mathematics and arithmetic. Slightly more formally, I did a few training courses for industrial electronics. I didn’t offer the apples to the students - but they did gave me lunch at their canteen!
a lady teacher once gave me an apple…lol
