On photograpic forums (I am on 3 of them) every so often the discussion crops up about some aspects of taking a photography and which type of camera ie=- full frame- Micro four thirds and others.
In every case a member makes a statement about one is better for low light than another , if that is the matter under discussion.
I notice 99.9% of them never post a photographic example to prove their point. So I tend to ignore such posts as my guess is they are only quoting from what they have read elsewhere,
For someone getting just getting into photography and reading a “quote” from someone else may get them to buy the wrong camera or lens.
Some posts are also well meant from those who have the photograpic equipment themselves and can give first had advice, but most have never laid a hand on what they take about.
This is my big gripe with such forums I belong to, too many talk about but never used or owned
This is a problem with any hobby, when my son took up model aircraft flying around 2003, we went to a local model shop on the advice of the guys at a local flying field. At that period in time, we did not know that Futaba was the most common radio system used by flyers, so we asked the shop owner for a recommendation, he mentioned Futaba but recommended Sanwa so, not knowing better we went with that. When we turned up at the field for his first days instruction, we were surprised to find that all the guys had Futaba equipment and the Sanwa (at the time) was not compatible for buddying up for training purposes. I asked the guys why we would have been recommended this system at the shop and the answer was. the shopkeeper had probably had the Sanwa system knocking around for a while and couldn’t shift it.
So, an expert can have an axe to grind
