Diesel cars may face a new tax

Until the electric vehicles (EV) become more practical they are too limited.
For example if I want to visit family, I have a round trip of about 240 miles. Best range for the EV is about 250 miles.
I am pretty sure I would not risk running out of charge on the M6. Also maximum range assumes a 100% charge which shortens the battery life (according to some sources).

That link asks me if Iā€™d like to pay Ā£14.50 a week.

Hi

Apologies for that JBR.

This link is free.

Thank you.

I wish it was that good but while we are soon to be the worldā€™s largest exporter of natural gas we face a gas shortage for industry and home use.

Coal fired power stations are closing because no one will invest in new ones but there is nothing reliable to replace them. SA had a massive state wide power outage recently when a storm took down some power lines. This power shortage will soon affect NSW and Victoria if nothing is done.

It is absurd that a country with more coal, more natural gas and more uranium than any other country on the planet should be in this situation.

Indeed. Trendy eco-warriors are taking precedence over down-to-earth people of common sense.

I can certainly believe that is the case here, but I am surprised that it is also happening in Australia.

You can take it seriously and worry about it Tara, but there is absolutely nothing that you or I can do about itā€¦And shame on those who try to convince you otherwiseā€¦

It has nothing to do with eco warriors at all, it has everything to do with capitalism and unfettered market forces.

We would not be in this situation if there was a price on carbon or [URL=ā€œhttp://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-09/looming-gas-shortage-will-threaten-nations-power-supplies/8337204ā€]legislation ensuring that gas extraction required some to be held back for the local market.

We all need to do our bit to help rectify the situation, otherwise it is our children and grandchildren who will suffer!

The only way we can achieve anything is by going back to the dark agesā€¦a 100,000 years or so should do it.

We canā€™t rectify it Taraā€¦And telling you that your Children and Grandchildren will suffer amounts to ā€˜Emotional Blackmailā€™ā€¦

That sort of sand in the sand attitude is STUPID!

Sand in the sand?

That sounds stupid if anything does!

Pretending global warning doesnā€™t exist, or isnā€™t caused by the pollutants we are putting into the atmosphere is STUPID!

How do you explain ā€˜Global Warmingā€™ and Global Coolingā€™ before we were around then Tara?

Based on your theory Tara the climate has been static since the beginning of timeā€¦

It will have been all those naughty stone age men burning wood in their fires.

I donā€™t understand the ins and outs of global warming, but the fact that our climate has changed quite drastically in a short period of time appears to suggest that human activity is to blame. Far better to act as if it is a fact and try to cut down on greenhouse gases.

Previously in history ā€˜Faster Changesā€™ have been observed from time to time Taraā€¦An Ice Age suddenly descended upon the world so fast that it wiped out just about every living thing on the planetā€¦

I would agree that pollution is making life very difficult for the human species and must be reduced. However, pollution occurs on a local scale and once the offending polluter has been removed, mother nature exerts her natural ability to return the environment back to normal.

There has been some massive amounts of pollution released into the atmosphere in the past. Volcanic Eruptions and a couple of hundred Atomic Bombs tested around the world. Krakatoa, was the largest explosion ever recorded on the planet. Itā€™s shockwaves resonated around the world three times.
So much debris and ash was thrown up into the atmosphere, that night descended on London after debris blocked out the sun.

By instigating ā€˜Smokeless Zonesā€™ in London, the smog that used to engulf the city is now a thing of the past. Fantastic examples of how this planet is ā€˜Self Cleaningā€™
But we are talking mainly localised events and for these relatively small amounts of pollution [by world standards] to affect the climate would be [in my opinion] a serious over exaggeration. It would be like taking a 2000 watt fan heater outside and expecting it to heat up the village.

As with all these frightening stories about fire and brimstone descending down upon our heads, because we enjoy driving down to the shops or keeping our houses warm in the winter, Scale [The size of the planet and itā€™s surrounding atmosphere] is never taken into account.

Cattle are by far the greatest producers of ā€˜greenhouse gasā€™ they belch out around 70 to 120 kg of Methane per year.
Read here

Quite true Malcolm, and all plants [Photosynthesis] churn out Carbon Dioxide after the sun goes downā€¦
Also, rotting vegetation in lakes and ponds produces Methane as it breaks down.
