did you know that McDonald’s introduced drive-through service due to the military.

The first McDonald’s Drive Thru was installed in a restaurant based in Sierra Vista, Arizona, located near the Fort Huachuca military installation. Military rules forbade the soldiers from wearing their military uniforms in public, and they weren’t about to change into civilian clothes just to grab a burger and run back to base, so restaurant manager David Rich came up with a solution cut a hole into the wall and allow members of the military to pick up their orders without stepping out of their car. The convenience and simplicity of the idea quickly caught on.

A woman who lost her wedding ring found it 16 years later on a carrot in her garden.

A woman in Sweden lost her wedding ring while cooking for Christmas in 1995. She looked everywhere for it, and even had her kitchen floor pulled up hoping she could find it. But she wouldn’t see it again until 2012.

While gardening 16 years later, the woman found the ring around a carrot that was sprouting in the middle of it. The only explanation was that the ring must have been lost in vegetable peelings that were turned into compost. Clearly, composting isn’t just good for the enviorment

Did you know.

That a pigeon has built its nest on top of a security light, inside our parade of shops, which are closed at night…I never knew pigeons were that daft…:joy::open_mouth:.

I wish I had my camera with me!..

Similar story…near to my old house in London and under a railway bridge there used to be a streetlight. Pigeons loved resting on it and playing poo the pedestrians. So spikes were welded on the top of it to deter them, but these became a handy and sturdy fixing point for pigeons to attach their nests onto :rofl:

Actually, Tachyons are hypothetical particles, not theoretical ones…

Thanks for the correction. I’ll ponder over the semantic difference in due course.

Interestingly the wiki page states they were theorized in 1967 and the their current status is hypothetical. Without looking it up, would you happen to know what criteria is needed to delineate between the two statuses (not got a clue if that’s the plural of that word…doesn’t feel right at all!!)?

Hypothesis is a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.

A theory is an explanation which correctly describes an element or behaviour which has been repeatedly tested using accepted protocols of observation, measurement, and evaluation of results. Where theories are not amenable to experimental testing, theories are evaluated through principles of abductive reasoning.

Best example I can think of…

We can hypothesize that alien civilisations exist on other planets, but have no evidence to support it, apart from the observation of thousands of planets around stars and the mathematical probability of the sheer number of stars there are.

If (for example) we detected a radio signal from one of them and can exclude all natural and made made phenomena, then we have a theory on evidence of the existence of a civilisation.

Did you know A Brazilian man was killed in bed when a cow fell through the roof and landed on him.

In 2013, Joao Maria de Souza was lying in bed when a cow that had been grazing on a hill behind his house walked onto the asbestos roof and fell through, landing on de Souza, according to the BBC. The injured man was taken to a hospital where he later passed away. As strange as this incident might seem, locals claim that it was the third time a similar thing had happened in the area in the past three years, although no one was killed the first two times.

Did you know The “M’s” in M&Ms stand for “Mars” and “Murrie.”

That would be Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie, the two businessmen who created the candy-coated chocolates. The two actually had a very contentious relationship, as Mars leveraged Murrie out of his 20 percent share in the company in 1949—years before M&Ms would become the best-selling candy in the U.S., paying him just $1 million for a share of business that would quickly be worth billions.
