Did you have Idols growing up?

Why Danny…as John Lennon Said…he is not the best drummer in the world in fact he’s not the best drummer in the Beatles

No l didn’t but all my friends did! They had the names of their idols scribbled on their satchels. Usually Cliff or Elvis. I didn’t like them and l have never been one to follow the crowd.

Then the Beatles entered the music scene and l liked Paul McCartney the best, so l wrote his name on my satchel.

Blimey Dachs, you’ve been through it, and a better man for it.

I meant as a musician. Plus i was told a lot growing up I looked like him. Personally I was never a big Beatles fan. Back when I grew up late 60s early 70s I was listening to Led Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane were more up my alley.

Not so sure actually.

I thought the idol stage was about teen love not thinking/analysing.

No if I were talking teen love idol that would have been.

whose poster adorned my wall.
Trust me no thinking/analyzing going on here.
But those are appropriate to the topic. Double meaning just caught me.

I applaud you … (but maybe a little disappointed you favoured 507s and not 501s)

I guess it was because of the zip but in the end it wouldn’t have mattered. :grinning:

My idols were Nelson Mandela and Mother Therese.

No, I wasn’t smitten or obsessed with any celebrity growing up. Music groups were great, I loved the music but didn’t get hung up on the groups or any one personality. I did admire George Harrison for being his own person apart from the group. I did admire some wonderful authors.

Must have been busy focusing on my current boyfriend and planning how to get my hooks into him…yep, that was at the front of my mind. That, and doing well in school.

When I was a young horse mad girl I admired Angel Peralta the Spanish horseman ( I didn’t know then he was a mounted bull fighter )

I don’t think he was my idol but even from an early age I have always admired and been interested in J M W Turner. Not just for the brilliance of his painting but his irascible and difficult nature has always appealed to me.

My idol all those years ago was Frankie Vaughan

My friend and I went to the Hippodrome to see him and afterwards went to the Stage Door to get his autograph. He chatted to us and gave us both a signed photo of himself ……. we were in heaven!

Being an avid Trekkie I adored James T Kirk. Spock too. But what I wouldn’t have given for a snog with JTK back in the day. I can watch the original series 'til the cows come home - and do.

Now at 90 he’s boldly gone, still has all his faculties, great off the wall sense of humour and has no difficulties with his hearing. Excellent in his left ear, excellent in his right and excellent in his final front ear.

I still love him but don’t want to snog him anymore. :grinning:

 :joy:

Wasn’t he great? I got quite emotional :joy:

I loved him too but I preferred Spock really

I got most fun at going to the Who gigs…
…I wanted to get away from home so when I met my Husband that is all I thought about in truth from 16 years of age.
As a child I was sports mad and that is the only thing I really enjoyed at school…Running, some serious running and loved being in the Netball Team.
I read a lot now, and can be all sorts, but do love reading anything Historical.
… As a child I do not remember any books around at all…Dad had Readers Digest Magazines arrive regularly by post.
