DI Ray ITV 9pm

A 4-parter on 4 consecutive nights started Monday 2/5. Brilliant drama showing racism is NOT just confined to the police, white on black, white on brown, etc but within Indian castes, between Indian religions, etc. Fantastic storyline, scripting, and acting. (What do you expect when Jed Mercurio, Line of Duty, is involved?) The only downside is the sometimes very dodgy Brummie/West Mids accents in my opinion  Can’t wait for episode 3 tonight.

Loving it, can’t wait for episode 3 tonight!

Edit: do you mean racism is not confined…in your 1st line?

Thanks Ruthio. My mistake (that I have just corrected).

We are watching it. I worked with many Ugandan Asians when Idi Amin kicked them out of Uganda. The caste system was very much alive and kicking and people from a high caste like the goldsmiths would have nothing to do with the lower castes. They also had this thing about the lightness of their skin …. So the lighter you were the better you were and if you were very dark skinned you were seen as unclean. I know it’s mad!

It was even worse between Asians and West Indians. It was really difficult in the workplace as they would have nothing to do with each other and even avoided eye contact. The Asians thought they were better and more educated and the West Indians thought the Asians were stuck up.

One of my best friends is from Tanzania and Says that she is less favoured than others and I asked her what she meant. She said she doesn’t have a long, thin nose and straight hair like Asians. She says they always get preferential treatment. I jokingly called her a racist and she just laughed. Racism is definitely not just white on black.

Yes, DI Ray is very good. I must say her fiancé has the patience of a Saint!
I really felt it when she got smacked on the head. Ouch!!

I loved it when she got one over her boss, the superintendent Ross Beardsmore who said the case was a CSP (Culturally Specific Homicide)

You think so now!!!

ruthio… l am in total shock!! I had just got to the end of tonight’s episode that l recorded earlier and l couldn’t believe what was happening.
Then l got an alert on my mobile phone re. an email from OFF informing me of your post. It came just as l was considering watching the next episode tonight and l can’t decide whether to, or not to.

Wow… I didn’t see that one coming!!

I’m wondering now whether it was her fiance (forgot his name) who pushed her under when she was in the bath - he appeared quite quickly after it had happened!

Ooooo I never thought of that

I yelled and stared open mouthed at the screen!!!
Can’t see how they’re going to wrap it all up in one more episode

I binge watched over two nights, not bad. Won’t spoil it.

I’m wondering if it will turn yet again?

It must be good acting for me to react in the shock l felt when it happened.
Usually, l say to myself, don’t worry it’s only fiction when something is frightening but this just stunned you!!
.

Neither did we! And no DNA found by the forensics team in her property after the near drowning? How did that happen? They should have found her DNA, her fiance’s and her bag man’s at the very least.

Thank you. Can’t wait for tonight’s finale.

With Jed Mercurio involved with the direction I suspect we will have a couple more twists at least.

This had to have been one of the best TV dramas we’ve watched in ages. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt sorry for Ray at the end, though, as she was being subjected to an investigation because her fiancé was involved with the baddies.

I lasted 12 minutes before deleting the recording of all 4 episodes.
If a program has not gripped me by then I tend not to bother and there were other aspects that I didn’t like.

I agree.
But I found the ending so sad and disappointing.
Her team adored and admired her, she was superb at her job against all opposition from her superiors, she overcame tremendous professional and intimate obstacles…and yet…and yet…

Hi

The reality of life Ruthio.#

No DNA?

If you know what you are doing, easy to arrange.

Putting someone else’s DNA at the scene, is a bit more difficult, involves some planning and technical knowledge.

It is however perfectly doable.

A few strands of hair would be all that was needed surely?

I thought you only watched the first 12 minutes!!:rofl:

My comment was a general one about placing someone else’s DNA at a crime scene.

I was only teasing
