Danny, I didn’t read your profile before I posted and muddled you up with another person - I assumed you were female My apologies, sir. Hope I haven’t put you off this lovely forum.
As I have been with one person for about 45 years, I haven’t any experience with dating sites, but having thought about it a bit I wonder if it is better to join a group where everyone meets up face to face regularly. I know there is a group called Gingerbread for single parent families and I am sure there must be something for older people who are on their own.
My husband’s neice (who is obviously younger) had been divorced and brought up 4 children. Now her children are either left home or at University she went onto a dating site and found a partner. They both were married this Summer, so there are some success stories. Maybe you need to persevere Danny and as the saying goes - you have to kiss a few frogs before you find Mr or Mrs Right. There is always the possibility that you will find someone you like on this type of forum
You would need a lot more member participation to establish if such a relationship was possible.
In my view the chances are very small and I would guess if you are actually looking for someone you would be better off sticking to the dedicated sites.(good or bad)
Some forums do advertise dating sites but they are usually a link address and the forum receives a small percentage in revenue.
At any rate I hope you will have better luck in the new year.

I’ve met loads of women via ‘plenty of fish’ and found plenty are offish - however there are genuine people there.

I know the dating sites can be bad, but I have been seeing someone for 4 years now who I met on POF. There are good ones, but I met my share of nitwits as well.
My late partner and I met on a dating site and had 4 happy years together before he died. It does work sometimes but you do need to be careful.
