England begin the defence of their 50-over title as they face New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup this morning.
It is four years since England became world champions in remarkably dramatic fashion at Lord’s, beating New Zealand in a Super Over to complete their rise to the top of the white-ball game.
Since then they have added a T20 World Cup to the trophy cabinet too and this England side now look to do it once again on the biggest stage, with the likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler key figures as ever.
Stokes had a “slight niggle” says Buttler ahead of World Cup opener
……
Ben Stokes is a doubt for the tournament opener with a hip injury, with England likely unwilling to risk the Test captain in the first of nine matches in the the group stage.
New Zealand have made it to the semi-finals in the last four 50-over World Cups, and have finished as runners-up in each of the last two, but their wait to be world champions for the first time still goes on.

They were completely outplayed……
I had the radio matched up with the tv pictures.
Amazing partnership to win the game.
But it is only one game.
Bangladesh next.
I’ve sky but not sky sports .
But radio great in car.
if you are able to marry up TV & radio you get the best of both.
When young was caught I thought here we go but then it all fell apart.
That’s a good idea, I’ll try it today. The Sky commentary is dire at the moment, I usually turn the sound right down now. What a shame that the ground was almost empty - there is usually such a good atmosphere when cricket is played in India.
Very disappointed with England’s performance!
The delay on the radio yesterday needed eight seconds.
It is only three today!
Alternatively have the radio on a computer/iPad etc and delay the TV.
Not sure if that works with the World Cup.
Haven’t tried it.
I have a suspicion that the toss is going to be crucial in the floodlit games.
Which most are.
Will see if a pattern emerges.
Bowling second may become an issue,
Pakistan struggling against the Netherlands
Have you spotted the highlights on Sky Showcase?
And on double header days there is a live game on Sky Sports Mix which you should have.Channel 416.
….
Todays radio commentary came from Salford!
You may have different numbers to me…I have Eurosport on 413 and 414 and Sky Sports Mix on 416.
They are part of the Entertainment package.
Thinking about it I don’t have HD for entertainment.
There are also ,on occasion,FTA broadcasts on Sky Sports YouTube.
You also have Viaplay extra ( Freesports) where the European T10 cricket championships are being played out.
There is an England XI in that.
They play Switzerland ,Cyprus and Romania on Monday.
Pakistan were given a good game by the Netherlands.
The Netherlands have a few players with county experience.
Listening to the day game Afghanistan v Bangladesh now.
Think this commentary is from Salford again!
Spoiler Alert…if you are watching the highlights on Five or showcase…
England cruised to an easy victory over Bangladesh……not really a contest.
Dawid Malan starred with the bat and Reece Topey with the ball.
….
An England XI with Glamorgans Tom Bevan play Romania at 1930 in the European T10 on European Cricket Network
England are being put to the sword by Afghanistan……now I quite like the cricket team to win because it is the England and Wales cricket board but this could be embarrassing!
…
It’s got better!
