Covid booster jabs to start being given in the UK from September

Widely reported within the past hour comes news that the Health Secretary Sajid Javid has said that he has already put plans in place to give the most vulnerable groups a third or booster Covid jab early next month, which surely means that boosters will soon follow for the rest of the population too.

I understood that if you’d had two shots of the Oxford AZ a booster wasn’t necessary.

Fair enough but AIUI a booster has always been mooted, not just to maintain protection but to give added defence against new variants too.

Back in April The BMJ reported that boosters would be given in the autumn:

If and when it becomes available up here I will be first in the queue, after the most vulnerable off course.

Yes, I too will have any booster that is offered.
TBH I don’t see the point of being vaccinated in the first place if you’re then going to refuse to keep yourself protected as much as possible by having recommended boosters.

Also happy to have a booster. I tend to think of myself as still young and strong, but if I catch sight of meself in a mirror the illusion is shattered, (mind you if I take me specs of the wrinkles and lines all vanish). I worry about passing anything on to my Mum, (90 in January), so would have the booster jab for that reason anyway.

I wish the NHS and JCVI would do the boosters as a combination vaccine with the winter flu jab.

I had my first vaccination at the beginning of January so I’m hoping my booster jab will be early September.

I also hope the flu jab will be at the same time

I don’t know that it will be quick enough for this coming booster, but …
