This is the most recent I could find for Scotlandâs R Number:
âŠâAs per data published on 18 November the latest R value in Scotland was estimated to be between 0.9 and 1.1âŠâ Iâm sure its gone up since then though, but I canât find anything. OddâŠ
First Minister says it has remained stable for some time, and âpossibly decliningââŠwho knows really? I check here https://www.travellingtabby.com/scotland-coronavirus-tracker/ after I check the government website, just to compare the numbers, despite that being one of the sources for this page.
The prime minister has started the press conference.
The PM said anyone arriving in the UK will be asked to take a PCR test for Covid-19 on the second day and they must self-isolate until they provide a negative result.
He also confirmed the reintroduction of face masks on public transport and shops, although they will not be required in hospitality venues.
Speaking at a Downing Street press conference, Mr Johnson said: âWe need to slow down the spread of this variant in our country and buy time for our scientists to find out what weâre dealing with.
âWe are not going to stop people travelling, but we will require anyone who enters the UK to take a PCR test by the end of the second day after their arrival and to self-isolate until they have a negative result.
âWe will also require all contacts of those who test positive with a suspected case of omicron to self-isolate for ten days regardless of your vaccination status.â
The prime minister said the new measures would be reviewed in three weeks, by which time they should have better information about the âcontinuing effectivenessâ of vaccines.
The prime minister said the âtightening upâ of the mask rules will be outlined by Health Secretary Sajid Javid âin the next day or soâ. He did not indicate when PCR tests would begin and in a press release the Department of Health only said it was among the measures being âintroduced from next weekâ.
Asked by the BBCâs Iain Watson if the prime minister could say with any confidence whether or not people could keep their Christmas plans this year, Mr Johnson replied: âWe continue to be in a strong position largely thanks to the speed of the vaccine rollout, another booster rollout, and⊠Iâm pretty confident to absolutely confident this Christmas will be considerably better than last Christmas.â
