The UK is carrying out more tests than other European countries hence the high number of cases. The hospitalisations are being kept in check proving the vaccinations are working.

Hi

Things are not good locally.

It is masks and rarely going out again.

Staying up at very high … :scream:

Why is the UK still experiencing 1,200,000 new recorded cases every month when, allegedly, up to 50,000,000 (90% of those eligible) have been initially vaccinated, over 45,000,000 (80% of those eligible) have received a double dose and 14,000,000 (25% of those eligible) have received a booster?

Is it because the vaccinations are NOT reducing the risk of infection or because precautions against the risk of infection are no longer being enforced?

Deaths may be coming down slowly, at ONLY 150 a day (4,500 a month) but hospital admissions remain static at 800 a day (24,000 a month) with winter now fast approaching.

The situation will, it seems, get worse (again) … but why?

The estimated percentage of people living in private households (not in hospitals, care homes and/or other communal establishments) that had COVID-19 in the most recent week was:

  • 1.51% in England (1 in 65 people), compared with 1.70% (1 in 60 people) the week before
  • 1.84% in Wales (1 in 55 people), compared with 2.13% (1 in 45 people) the week before
  • 1.53% in Northern Ireland (1 in 65 people), compared with 1.35% (1 in 75 people) the week before
  • 1.06% in Scotland (1 in 95 people), compared with 1.18% (1 in 85 people) the week before

Hi

My view of things.

The new mutations of Covid are responsible for this.

The virus was always going to mutate , it is what they do.

We are playing catch up, we have cut the numbers of experts working on this and others because the Government decided it was an easy decision.

Much as I dislike Boris, it is not his fault, the decisions where made by Cameron and May.#

What is the fault of Boris however, is his continuation of the stupidity

In a Covid-19 press conference today Boris Johnson warned that the new wave of coronavirus that was sweeping through central Europe has now reached Western Europe.

He stated there were “storm clouds” gathering over Europe in response to the new wave.

He added: “We don’t yet know the extent to which this new wave will sweep up on our shores but history shows that we cannot afford to be complacent,” he said. Those countries with lower vaccination rates have tended to see bigger surges in infection and in turn been forced to respond with harsher measures while those countries with higher vaccination rates have so far fared better. It shows us that if we want to control the epidemic here in the UK and if we want to avoid restrictions on our daily lives we must all get vaccinated as soon as we are eligible.”

Professor Witty, England’s chief medical officer, said: “There has already been a very significant increase in eastern Europe which is still ongoing, with significant numbers of people dying, in particular among the unvaccinated. That has now moved westward and, as you can see, is now increasing significantly, also in many western European countries. We all knew – everywhere in Europe we knew – that as we went into winter, into the typical respiratory virus/flu season, that the risks would be greater, and I think this is a demonstration of the fact that we’re beginning to see a winter respiratory effect.”

BJ talking the talk but, apparently, not doing anything to stem the flow of infection from Europe - he’s banking on vaccinations to fend off the viral invasion … :man_shrugging:

Latest R and growth rate for England

Latest R range for England1.0 to 1.1

Latest growth rate range for England*-1% to +2%*per day

An R value between 1.0 and 1.1 means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 10 and 11 other people.

I couldn’t find Scotland’s latest.
