Thanks Bruce, for allowing this thread to be used for discussions, very magnanimous of you, I took it to be mostly for daily factual figures regarding Covid-19, with the odd comment made. As you may know I started a completely new thread in reply to post #356, this was started both out of respect for yourself and to avoid derailing your thread. You may have seen the furore on that thread which developed and I am hoping this thread and my replies to post #356 do not follow the same way.

Yes, it’s a nice word, I agree and it covers a large number or amount of anything.

The replies below are exactly the same as on the thread I attempted to start yesterday, the text from that was copied before I deleted it for the reasons given on that thread (now locked unfortunately):

Yes, I see what you mean. That time, whatever it might have been, would have been unpalatable. However, the last almost two years have probably been very unpalatable, especially for those thousands and thousands who have lost loved ones. For them it will have been far worse than unpalatable I believe. There may also have been many lives saved, another unknown I realise, but that may have been the case.

Things might have improved as you write but just that may have helped no end. Even if this situation was just 20% or even 50% better for the sake of an earlier, complete lockdown then that would be far better than it is now I reckon.

Perhaps we may actually be further down the line than the majority of other countries, looking at today’s figures though I cannot help but think these are not much better than they were at the start. The cases per million have increased and increased, now our’s are far higher than other countries. Take the USA’s cases per million (154,599*) and our’s (163,587*), compare their population (331,002,651*) with our’s (67,886,011*) and something is not right. What that is I don’t know, it’s not my area of expertise and there are many factors involved but that is happening, there is no doubt about that.

So which thread is the “correct” thread to use now if we wish
to post on covid ??
Is it the Brucy daily report or one of the others ?
If one of the others, which one ??
I hope this shut down culture doesn’t spread ? LOL!!
Donkeyman! :roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

Possibly if there’s a specific covid thread that covers your covid subject then that will be one to use or any other thread that’s relevant. If it’s anything to do with the covid-19 figures posted daily on this thread then probably this is the one to use.

I can only agree with what you say about hoping the ‘shut down’ culture doesn’t spread, especially as there’s absolutely no need for it, in my opinion anyway.

I am rather confused with it all myself now and I have to add, also very disillusioned.
:upside_down_face:

No, it is a forum, a thread purely of stats is pretty dull, I chose the title for a reason. Anybody has always been welcome to comment on anything to do with day to day covid stuff.

It amazes me how accurate some of the health modelling as been. I seem to recall that ages ago one of the UK models predicted 100000 daily cases by Christmas. It does appear that prediction was not far off with 90000 daily cases and Christmas nearly a week off.

It has to be said that if we were guided by science rather than political expediency then perhaps everybody would be better off. (However one has to bear in mind that Eugenics was created by science also.)

Gawd, this is a worry. Looking at info from abroad

Don’t think there is any furlough here anymore.

Going global, and staying global during the pandemic, was not such a good idea

Could this situation have happened in the fifties?

Never agreed to Global Foxy, you know that.

I think the fifties would have been little different, let’s face it it was able to happen in 1918, the only difference would be the mass spreading events would occur at Butlins or on the cross channel ferries.

There definitely wouldn’t have been an effective vaccine produced in less than a year.

It worked itself out in 1918 without the use of a vaccine though Bruce, and it was more easily contained, unlike today where continental travel is allowed to go on unhindered.
Have we actually manufactured a successful vaccine in less than a year though?
It might be appearing to do the job it was designed for (keep pressure off the hospitals and nothing else) but will it bite us on the ar$e in a year or two just like it seems to be doing already.

It’s in hopes to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.

From 11:59pm tonight, Canberrans must wear a mask in all indoor settings, including indoor retail settings, indoor workplaces and on public transport.

Visitor restrictions are also being reintroduced for residential aged care facilities.

62 of the ACT’s 124 current active cases are the Omicron variant.

Emergency National Cabinet Meeting Tomorrow

All Australians could see a return to wearing masks indoors as the Prime Minister urges state and territory governments not to impose harsh restrictions in response to the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

Prime Minister Scotty from Marketing said he would present “strong recommendations” to an emergency meeting of national cabinet tomorrow for indoor mask use to continue.

On the home front

NSW Premier Dominic “Let it Rip” Perrottet announced he would reintroduce QR code check-ins and also appears set to provide free rapid antigen testing kits.

He said check-in codes would be reintroduced in most settings including hospitality and retail. No timetable for their reintroduction was set yet.

Check-ins, which were among a raft of measures relaxed on December 15, would assist with contact tracing, Mr Perrottet said in a beautiful backflip and pike.

Mask wearing is being reintroduced in Victoria but not in NSW where it is a matter of personal responsibility (??)

Yes Victoria showing more sense as usual.

“So what that means, from 11:59pm tonight, the following additional measures will apply in Victoria
face masks will be required in all indoor settings, except private homes, for persons eight and over.”

“Face masks will also be required at all major events over 30,000 people. Again, to be clear, face masks will be required indoors and outdoors when moving around, although masks can be removed when seated outdoors.”

UK’s done the 100k, just watch now the last minute shopping is underway, and the parties are starting.
