Covid-19 Statistics

Good post Mags. I have nothing against non-vaxxers but what is annoying is the anti-vaxxers who campaign and pontificate against the vaccine.

If you donā€™t rate twitter Bruce, how about the BBC?

I agree with you Mags, but itā€™s not the vaccine that is causing the problems, itā€™s the vaccine passports and freedoms that are being taken away. There are many vaxxed people taking part in the protests.

Thatā€™s right Foxy, there are two distinct things in the offing here.

Goodness @Bruce, I see Australia has now topped the 200,000 cases mark :slightly_frowning_face: It doesnā€™t seem that long ago that I used to envy your country for just having just 900 odd cases compared to our thousands of thousands.

Thatā€™s the Delta variant for you. I think the majority of those cases will be in Victoria, Melbourne has spent more time in lockdown than any city in the world apparently.

The odd thing is that since opening up in Victoria, NSW and ACT there have not been the number of cases predicted by government modelling.

I came across this video showing how Covid outbreaks happened in NSW it clearly shows how Delta made a big difference.

Frances criticalā€™s ainā€™t moved since October 20th, question these statistics. :icon_sad:

Thatā€™s better

is anyone else as confused about lockdowns as me? Surely locking down to prevent the spread of the disease only makes the population more vulnerable to the next varient and the population isnā€™t building any natural immunity ā€¦

I know the vaccine is supposed to give some protection but they are now saying that protection diminishes over timeā€¦a country canā€™t live in lockdown thats not possible and surely with each varient stronger than the last the population becomes more vulnerable with each lockdown

There is a middle ground in attitude, but, that goes against the grain.

I agree with you to a point about lockdowns @summer, however, the governments of the world have interfered big style in their handling of Covid 19. If nobody had ever caught a common cold some vulnerable people would die from it. Viruses and other serious diseases of all descriptions have circulated the planet as long as there have been people to walk on it, and until the 20th century there were no vaccines. Today there are vaccines for the most vicious and most life threatening infections and they have saved many lives giving lifelong protection in most cases, Covid 19 is not one of these vicious illnesses, and most people will shrug it off in a few weeks at most, as Mrs Fox and I did. Yes some people will develop complications or even die, but is this not the same in any illness?

This may sound callous but we donā€™t vaccinate against some of the more common ailments, and influenza takes a large proportion of the elderly each year despite being vaccinated. You canā€™t vaccinate against death! and the best way to combat a virus for the community is to allow it to circulate, it will claim lives.
Your health is your responsibility and no one elseā€™s. Not the government, not the NHS, not someone on the forum who calls you selfish, and not your local GP. In a 21st century country Medical help should be available to everyone if you require it, but it should not be the government who decide and legislate over what you decide to do. We are becoming a nanny state and this is not what the government are there to do.

Vaccines should be made available for those that want it, and lockdowns should not be enforced by law. If you feel vulnerable you should take the vaccine and lock yourself down. You canā€™t force the world to live by your standards (not you personally Summer) and people will refuse the vaccines, not wear masks and visit crowded places. Most of these people (mainly the young) will suffer no more from covid than the common cold, and they will protect the elderly and vulnerable by driving the virus out of society just like it was with all the other pandemics.

I would never knowingly contract the virus, but in a way Iā€™m glad that I caught covid and surviving it was a bonus, and I donā€™t care what the BBC scientists say, natural immunity is far superior to any vaccine and will help me to prevent future infections, or at least provide a good outcome if I do catch it again.

Things are hotting up in Europe!

Our cases are also increasing!

My Christmas vacay might go bust AGAIN if they close the borders!

Our infections are also rising @Minx but there doesnā€™t seem to be the urgency that there was last year. Lets hope the vaccines can prevent so many deaths as we saw last year.
Although there are over two thousand hospitals in England and only 928 critical covid patients Iā€™m wondering why the cardiac wards are choc-o-block and the ambulance service is unable to copeā€¦Something we are not being told I suspect.
:017:
Stay safe Minx I donā€™t have that many daughters that I can afford to lose oneā€¦ :hugs:

In regard of all the anti-vaccine controversy ,why donā€™t we have
a scheme where the serious anti vaxxer has only to sign an undertaking
that if they do develop covid after refusing a vaccination, then they agree
to forgo any NHS treatment that might be needed to save their lives or
make them better ?
This will have the effect of protecting the NHS and everybody will then
be happy ??
