Imminent lockdown I would think.
I hope not …
Apparently BJ is making a TV statement at 8pm. That doesn’t bode well.
Will there be fairy lights in the background, mistletoe hanging from the ceiling, a glass of a suspiciously clear liquid on the lectern and the bass thump from Slade’s “Merry Christmas Everybody” reverberating from the upstairs flat …
nah…
Why are people getting so wound up about a virus that people don’t get seriously ill with or die from ?
I know 6 people who currently have covid and none of them feel really ill. I also knew several people who had it at the start of all this and some of them felt so well they were shocked when they were tested and had it!
I’ve got it now, I’ve got a bad cold and that’s about it.
Only another 4 days of self isolation and I can go back to the pub.
My brother-in-law caught COVID “at the start of all this” and died.
His is only one of 146,439 officially recorded deaths caused by COVID - deaths where COVID was a factor, but not the cause in the last 28 days, are not included in that figure.
At least 100 people will die from COVID today, that’s 3,000 this month.
Several FMs have been infected by the virus - AFAIK, they felt rather ill.
Today, at least 800 people infected with COVID will be admitted to hospital, adding to the total of 7,413 already there and the total of 608,216 previously admitted.
900 people remain in ventilation beds.
Yes the first wave and second wave were awful, but I don’t understand the reaction to this (at present apparently mild) variant bringing forward vaccine boosters to the end of December and then saying GPs will only be able to deal with urgent cases and vaccination. That’s just nuts people will die from not being able to access medical help when they or the sugery may not realise it’s urgent. This burden on GPs will put the NHS under more strain than omicron. I’m trying to understand who made this seemingly political decision to bring forward from the end of January?
My mum’s friend just died of complications after a heart attack. Lots of people I know have become ill and many have to wait for months for treatment. Others are dying or have died of cancer too. There are wider health implications& risks of reducing capacity to deal with non covid conditions.
Apparently you can no longer get test kits online because their system crashed. Glad I got my boxes at the weekend. Apparently you cannot book vaccinations because their online booking system is overwhelmed. Kneejerk decisions lead to logistical nightmares.
I was wrong and I wholeheartedly apologise. It seems my earlier posts about Omicron were overly optimistic and, to cap it all, the 1st person has died from it in the UK.
Another 1,576 cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been reported across the UK, taking the total to 4,713.
Of the latest number, 1,534 were in England, 27 were in Scotland, 15 were in Wales, and none in Northern Ireland, according to the UK Health Security Agency.
There were 1,239 new cases reported yesterday.
It comes after the first death of a patient with Omicron in the UK was confirmed by Boris Johnson.
Earlier, Health Secretary Sajid Javid said there were 10 people in hospital in England with Omicron, but warned that cases, hospital admissions and deaths will rise.
The UK Health Security Agency said the 10 are spread around the country and their ages range between 18 and 85.
More misleading information from the government and the state broadcaster.
How old was this person (my guess is around 90 years old) and what were his underlying health problems? Funny how the day before the vote this happens, right here in the UK and nowhere else in the world.
Nudge … nudge … nudge
Sky News …
They spread Covid if I remember rightly with Burley and Rigby on a tour of London, breaking the lockdown rules.
Don’t trust this bunch.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid told MPs Omicron now represented 20% of cases in England.
But the UK Health Security Agency estimates the current daily infections are around 200,000, Mr Javid said.
Omicron has risen to over 44% of cases in London and the variant is expected to become the dominant coronavirus variant in the city in the next 48 hours, Mr Javid said.
As hospitalisations and deaths lag behind infections by about two weeks, Mr Javid said we could “expect those numbers to dramatically increase in the days and weeks that lie ahead”.
Blimey …
Notice how Johnson and the Communist SAGE Party are refusing to disclose the age and any comorbidites of the person who died WITH Omicron.
Don’t believe a word of this its all bollocks.
Bread your obsession is showing I trust you have checked under the bed today for reds .
R number for Omicron estimated between 3 and 5
Every person with Omicron is believed to be passing the virus on to between three and five others on average, government scientists have said.
Dr Susan Hopkins tells the committee that for Omicron, the R value is between 3 and 5 in the UK, and that the variant is spreading rapidly - doubling in size every two days.
The current R value of the Delta epidemic in the UK is estimated to be between 1.1 and 1.2.
I’m sorry Omah, but how can they possibly know that. It’s just scaremongering to get people to have the booster…
Maybe … but it would account for the probability that there will be 1,000,000 cases of the Omicron variant by Sunday…
